I used to dread each new year and each birthday because it was a reminder that another year has passed, but nothing changed in my life. Until last year. Last fall I started a college course my community college offers for people with mental health issues. Tomorrow I will start working towards a degree. This is certainly a significant change in my life and I hope it is the change I need to help overcome this depression. I have so many hopes and dreams riding on this, but yet i also have doubts and fears.

When I first came to DS I could barely go anywhere or do anything on my own. So this is a significant milestone. I've also had trouble holding down a job due to my issues so this may be the key to build my confidence and to help me realize my dream of leading a normal, productive life as I will be earning a marketable skill in a good field.

So this is an exciting yet scary new phase as I have so much riding on it. I hope it is true that hard work and making positive changes result in a better life.
