Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Is anyone else with depression relate to being terrified of getting help? Like, you're tired of being in the hellscape you're in, but at the same time you've been in it for so long that you're used to it? Idk why but getting help makes me feel uncomfortable. Like, the thought of getting better is so impossible to me that it's frightening when it's offered to me. Idk, just a thought.

Identify what is the cause root of your depression and pluck it out! You can use all kinds of tools and resources including building a good relationship with a therapist but initially it’s your responsibility to identify what is the root cause of your affliction. Thank God today I was able to get it off my chest with some from my mental health team. Best luck to you buddy!

The first step is to identify what is causing you to be afraid to seek help. Its a barrier you need to break down. Is it the fear of sharing your feelings, fear of putting trust into a therapist, fear of facing what is causing your depression... There is also such a thing as being so comfortable in emotional pain that you are afraid to feel better. Its the fear of change. Change can be scary. You have to find the strength within yourself to make the first step to getting help if you really want it. A therapist can work with you to uncover your fears even before addressing your depression. Or you can do it yourself by writing them out so you can see them.

Good morning. I have always said that there is something that I like about my OCD and the thought of not having it leaves me feeling empty. So I think I know what you mean. Lately though, it has been losing its power on me. I am learning to ignore it. Please do get help for your depression. Also, start exercising, if you don't already. I joined Planet Fitness last October and I love it. It's even more fun if you have a workout buddy. Don't waste any more time. You can find a psychiatrist or therapist on the Psychology Today website.

Firstly, a virtual hug. Yes, I've been terrified for many years of getting "help". I've thought the inside of me is more than I can bear. Two years ago I kinda had a breakdown and have lost my daughter only a month ago; if there is any "advice" I would give you (Worth what you pay for it$0)it would be to look the fear in the face and say "Step off, bitch! This is MY life."

I am not afraid of getting help because getting help often doesn't work. I guess that is a negative thing to say. I think I know what you mean but feeling better is better than psychological torment. It's worth a shot to give getting better a try. You can always go back to feeling awful. I have found in the course of almost 60 years of life, feeling better and feeling bad kind of fluctuate to some degree. If feeling good feels weird, you can go back to old familiar habits. It's a long process, not a one time thing.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

Years ago, I won a mirrored armoire from my job. It's in my bedroom but I rarely stand in front of it. Yesterday, I had to have a dexascan done so I had to change into a gown. There was a full length mirror in the changing room. I'm aware that I gained 5 to 7 pounds over the last year from cheating on Keto but I didn't know what it looked like. It was a reality check.
