Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

Does anyone else find that the news causes them depression? It's been a major source of stress for me. I just could not get to bed until about five AM this morning due to the news. It really put me in a bad mood. How do you cope with the constant ups and downs lately? I'm trying to think about how to cope and live in the moment. I find that listening to the news takes me way out of the present moment, which is a real problem.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

Hey All...I hope that you have a lovely, peaceful beginning of your weekI have a bunch of chores that need doing but may put them off til tomorrow and just hang out with my landlord/roomie todayWhat about you?...Anything special going on?Have a great day and take good care of you!!..Xo

Sorry you did not sleep well last night. I do not attribute the news watching to staying up all night. I never really know most of those waking nights why I cannot sleep.
I did just deactivate my FB profile over politics. I have bit my tongue long on politics when guy I have known from high school of opposite candidate has bad mouthed the opposition and touted his choice to point I came unhinged today and fired both barrels on facebook after I posted something and someone from here thats not here any longer posted his kind of post that infuriated me. And then the friend since high school and fellow I gave ownership in our facebook high school reunion site came along! Blew both barrels and decided I am done with FB until the politics of the upcoming elections is but a look in the rear view mirror!
I generally dislike politics as a topic and to my friend its his favorite topic. The gal from here ignited my fuse and he poured gasoline on it. I cannot bother myself with any of it any longer.
Im not going to lose sleep on politics and FB either ends today or I lose sleep!
My father balanced me point for point as a polar opposite in political views during his lifetime, but from him I learned that viewpoints can change as we have new experiences and information, and most people are good folks wanting the best for themselves AND the other people they come across.
Politics gives us powerful ways to work together but I think we will always have really difficult struggles balancing our own interests and needs and giving equal attention to other's interests and needs. One great value of a site like this is it gives us the opportunity to "hear" many viewpoints/.values/experiences which can be very different than our own and in some kernal of that a chance to find some piece of common ground to do something positive. I think it is POSSIBLE to move more in that direction, but very difficult and depressing when guardrails for meaningful communication and negotiation and problem-solving seem gravely damaged.
The guardrails I was speaking of are not DS issues, but concerns with how political partisanship can impact a country's ability to provide effective governance and leadership .
But I love this quote from Mr. Rogers, he used to say, "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me 'Look for the helpers."
Have you tried different types of news? (Sports/fashion/politics)..maybe try stepping out and listening to the news on the radio; don't miss any moments.
My stress reliever is music and if I need to accomplish things I keep one ear bud playing while I step out. My anxiety gets under control and I'm able to get things done.
Good luck on finding ways to cope and live in the moment.. wish you the best.
I stay away from it then
I do like to watch news but not excessively
When terrible things have happened in the world I can get really caught up in too much news and it effects my mood
I try and remind myself to 'accept the things I cannot change'
Big hug of peace and calm....xo
