Hi Folks,

Im happy to announce a new feature that weve developedTeam DS and Community Leaders now have the ability to Close Topics. Topics which are closed will still be visible on the boards, but will no longer allow replies.

Team DS and the Community Leaders can use this tool to help curtail clear cases of abuse. If a CL has closed a topic, he/she can send Team DS a message notifying us that theyve closed a topic. Well then be able to review the threads and determine whether or not they should be deleted, re-opened or remain closed.

Underneath the original topic youll see some text which reads, This Discussion is Closed". The Team DS member or Community Leader who closed the thread will be able to add a note in order to provide more details. This note can be found directly underneath the This Discussion is Closed text.

# 2. At this point in time we're not promising round the clock coverage; but I feel that providing the CL's with access to this tool should help cut back on the time it takes for abusive situations to be diffused.

# 9. The Community Leaders are here to help foster a positive atmosphere, but you can always contact Team DS if you feel that a CL (or even a member of Team DS) has made a mistake in closing a post.

I think it's a very good idea.
There's going to be grumbling while the kinks are worked out. Most every new feature will have growing pains, and I hope the community as a whole gives it a fair chance.
There had to be enough reasons for it to be done and for it to be the first one...

can't really see this working well. giving certain users the perceived ability to interfere with discussions between other users?! if a thread gets out of hand and is closed, people involved can just start another thread to continue the arguments in. this already happens in such cases and all that'll be achieved by the new system is resentment towards the CLs by the ones who feel their right to respond was muzzled and CLs will get accused of picking sides by deciding who gets the last say.

have to point out that most 'trolls' are old users coming back to harass people and cause problems because they feel they were unfairly treated.

i guess we'll just wait and see how it goes.

I think this is a wonderful idea and I also don't feel that the CL's will abuse this "power". Afterall, the DS team will be able to investigate it as Jesse said and reopen or have a talk with the CL's if need be. I see Caged point, but it is still a great idea. Ohhh regarding Cages idea, what about a warning to the ones that do start up the same thing in another discussion that was already closed? Just a thought. Hope it works out great!

I only just realised that blue thing means you are part of DS.I swear my IQ is over 130 I swear pmsl.Good idea but I do like to abuse trolls.Can we not just be allowed to abuse trolls?No?Okey dokey.Hugs for being so caring x

It's finally a positive action from DS which is refreshing for a change. The problem to me is what Pepper stated... basically that he and Alph have no set criteria on this action.....might that be just a bit of unnecessary pressure on them....it probably would have been a little more realistic and helpful to all to have clear lines of TOS concerning this action instead of making it yet another guessing game.

I agree that the basic concept is good but as said, the confusion so to speak, has already started. I feel it personally would have been a bit more insightful and helpful, particularly for our CL's who have to make these decisions, to have some sort of concrete guidelines.
