I posted about this earlier, but the title was not clear so I'm posting again because the other title didn't seem to raise any interest. My dog died last night. I'm very sad, and honestly I don't want to walk anymore, because she was my walking companion, and I just can't even think about walking without her. I spent $725 trying to keep her alive. The vets tried. I took her everyday. It was a horrible way to go, she was hit by a car that just kept going and I didn't know it at first. I just knew something was wrong with her, but I didn't know what had happened. yesterday they tried surgery to get swelling out, but it came back and she could not breathe and she died, in a chair beside me, I was in bed, afraid to put her in bed with me because when I moved it made her hurt. When I worked out in the yard she would sit close by and enjoy being outside, when I would read my books she sat beside me on the love seat and slept. I don't want to carry on with these activities, even though I know I should. Should I allow myself to greive, and stay in the funk for a few days and then start trying to push myself? or should I push now? Should I force myself to do these things anyway? I know I can't force myself to go for a walk today, and I'm scared I will never want to go for a walk again.

Many of you know Mr K told me to "shut your mouth" in March 2025 when we took a road trip to Alpena Michigan. Since that time, we have had lots of ups and downs but I have never intentionally hurt Mr K in anyway. And when we first started dating in 2024 he let me know, although he is an engineer by degree, he has an extremely low EQ. Overall, he is ok (not off the charts nice like other guys in...

You don't mention getting another and I'm sure you want to wait on that. But there will come a time a gain when a new companion will want a home with you.
This is a terrible situation. If I was there I would have run them down for you. Some people are just aweful excuses for humans.
Thinking of you and hoping that with time you can return to your normal activities that you used to enjoy with her. Any thoughts on fostering from a shelter?
No matter how they go, it hurts like hell. Again I'm very sorry for your loss. PM me if you want to chat and need a friend.
What to do ... I don't think ANYONE can tell you something that will make you feel better. This automatically equals grief. Usually, the 'cure' for grief is time. Talking about it is supposedly therapeutic. It may be different between different people.
Again, .. my sympathy ... and (at least) time will heal.
If you're a huge animal lover but don't feel up to getting another dog, why don't you volunteer at a local shelter to be a dog walker? They're always looking for new walkers.
Don't be hard on yourself. This is not your fault- it will always hurt when we lose our animal friends. Try to stay positive and remember only the happy times you had with her.
When you feel it's time, maybe find another companion, nothing replaces the one you lost, but it's really all you can do unfortunately.
I know that your dog can't be replaced, but could you adopt another dog from a pet shelter? It might help you cope with the grief.
