My cat is dying too, she's 19. Honestly, I know the exact feeling you're feeling. Your heart will never be repaired. It's the truth. I can't believe you won't be able to get at least a year with him. It's heart breaking. But what I'm doing my with my cat is mothering her like never before. Keeping her happy. I'm sure you're doing the same. They bring us great comfort. It's so hard to explain to someone who doesn't understand animals. Who doesn't understand love. Live every moment with him. Get as many photos and great memories with him as you can. I'm sure he loves you and knows you always will <3

Hang on in there. I wept for days over Bobo, I know what you're going through.

Is there any way you can get him put down and put him out of his suffering? That's what I would do. A quick and painless death is all you can offer a loved animal when they are in agony and going to die anyway.

And also remember that there are other animals at the shelter which, although they can never take his place in your heart, can perhaps be given their own place in your heart next door? They do need homes. Now is probably a terrible time and I don't mean doing that straight away, but just because you said you could never love another; I know that bit of your heart is broken to bits. But there are other bits of your heart that you can use for other animals.

You obviously have a lot of love to give animals, and even though it might not ease your suffering, at least it might ease theirs.

We are going to bring him to a specialist because we want to make absolutely sure that it can't be anything else. Also, we have two other cats. One of them is Calvin's buddy and we adopted her from the humane society about 2 months after we adopted Calvin.

I'm so sorry j-chris... I do know that pain too, I used to rescue cats. One day this tiny terrified little thing, starving ran through my backyard. I had a lot of cats then...Anyway, I had sheds fixed up with heat and blankets as well as heated food and water. Of course, all the poor animals in that area, found their way to my house. She did finally eat and ran off like a thief in the night. But, the next day in the blink of an eye she returned for food. To make a long story short... she became mine! It took 4 months before she would let me touch her... but once I did, it was the most amazing and loving feeling. To skip to the chase.. she had cancer and only lived to be 1 -1/2. I couldn't talk about it.... or even look at a picture for years. I never thought I would adopt another cat. You're right it's beyond heartbreaking. Like someone ripped out your heart and threw it under a bus! Cry.. talk about.. try to nurture yourself the best you can. I don't know how much grief and sadness anyone can take.. but we are all here for you to try and help. Seems a lot of animal people who understand this kind of devastating loss and grief. You sound very sensitive to animals, as I am. I also have lost cats and it hurts. If I didn't believe in Heaven, I would REALLY be upset. But I know my cats are all there.

I'm an atheist but I do believe that all animals go somewhere peaceful, just not humans.
