Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

It's sad how the only connections I've seemed to have are with people I have met during times I have been an inpatient and I will never be able to have that connection outside that facility. I feel understood when speaking to them as we relate in so much and only if you've gone through it would you understand. During these times we are our truest self and become vulnerable, showing all flaws and wounds. It's real. I miss genuine connections. I miss them and hope it was for the better. We followed the rules. ...I'm so grateful for DS. At least here I can not feel alone.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

I don't know if you go to aftercare? I know that when I did hospital outpatient treatment there were some people in the cohort that were inpatient that came to my group for aftercare. Some of the people in there were there for chemical addiction, they became really close sober buddies outside of hospital. I'm only loosely connected to them now, but I know some places have aftercare where you might find people you vibe with, and that can extend into the 12 step community too...maybe try out some meetings? IDK, some of them have social gatherings, I don't know what you're into...just a random thought.
Hi Mars1212, I do not go to aftercare. I only saw a therapist when I was still working and could afford it. It didn’t allow me to make connections. Those group meetings would have been nice to go to. It is something to research… I avoid social gatherings, it causes too much anxiety but it’s good that there’s places like that to provide a safe place to meet people.
Not sure if this might help, but some places have what is called, or at least around PA, clubhouses for folks going through mental health. Not saying a google search will dig one up in your area, but it might not be a bad idea. I was part of one in the Pittsburgh area and it was a nice place to meet people and join in on occasional events.
I'm sorry that you're hurting sweetie
I know MeetUp's meet for all different things incuding coffee and conversation
You're right about getting honest when in the hospital
12 Step meetings can help a great deal
I know they also meet for loved ones of an addict ..Al anon or Nar Anon
There may be other peer groups that meet
Your doc could perhaps refer you to a socal worker or community health to help you to find what might be available in your community...xo
I understand the feeling. I tend to feel as alone and misunderstood a lot too.
DS had been a huge help for me .
