Hi, just wanted to introduce myself and ask if anyone else has ever had major depression on their birthday? Its not really an age thing, although I am feeling old and alone as I am in my 40s, divorced and not even strong enough emotionally to date anymore. It's more of a dread that has always came with my birthday, any expectations being put upon me to socialize, to be around my abusive family (not all of them are) and just general anxiety of it ...since I can remember. Anyone else relate?

Yes i have been depressed on my birthday before but for different reasons. I have a fear of growing up and having to deal with the responsibilities of being an adult. Also i was suffering from a major bout of depression then so even if that didnt bother me i still would have been depressed. It really does suck. And so is today ur birthday? Well in that case i wish u a happy birthday and im sorry u have to be sad. I hope u feel better. :)

I have also been depressed on my birthday. Nothing to do with age though. Just sadness like almost every other day. Happy Birthday.

yes i get depressed on my birthday as we cremated my dad the day before my 12th birthday and he died on the 20th of december so not great at christmas either

Yes I often feel depressed on my bday not so much cause of age either. Just usually its like another day and I think most of us want to feel special on our birthdays. So for me that's why. This yr I worked and it was a horrible day! Well happy bday whenever it is:)

hi jonie, welcome to the depression forum. i have felt depressed for the past several years on my birthday..it doesn't really go away. luckily, no one really makes a big deal about it, maybe a card from the kids, so for that i am grateful. i don't really want a reminder that my life is not where i want it to be and i am another year older.

sorry that you dread this day and have anxiety. it is not easy. hugs.

Thank you all for your input and understanding. I don't feel quite so alone now. The day is almost over and so my anxiety is not as bad and hoping to be in a better mood tommorrow.

Just being around family much less a birthday was cause for me. I tie anxiety and depression together. Anxiety is closely related, so anticipating something or having bad past experiences makes total sense.

I just discussed this very type of issue with someone last week. I liked the advice. The past is over, no need to continuing to assume the future will be like the past. (I know easier said than done). But I agree we can always try to look at the future differently or make choices that make the future more pleasant.

Yuppers!! Been there, done all of that, got the scars. And I moved through it, got better, and so far, am staying better. We could talk!

Oddly enough, my mood is calmer today just with the fact that the birthday is over and the family members will not likely be bothering me today. Today will just be a day of gaining back my security and peace. Thanks for all the birthday wishes.

    I'm horrified!  I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000.  I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter.  I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change.  Now this!  I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000.  I guess I have to pay...
