Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
There are two specific thyroid hormone levels that need to be checked. In a cursory blood test, these are rarely brought into it, and that path isn't pursued. You've got to insist on having a complete thyroid workup done.
My doctor is an ass, and won't pursue it for me. She actually COULD BE endangering my life and my overall welfare. (She's a nasty thing---don't even get me started!)
At any rate, this all works as further reminder that I need to go and have it done again, too; by a COMPASSIONATE doc, who listens and cares.
I would be willing to guess that about half of how I feel is down to my thyroid---I believe a-D meds have helped me a lot, but there's more work to be done. I am utterly convinced of it.
Thanks again for the helpful reminder, B.
A good doc will check your thyroid if you come in with symptoms of depression. Medical reasons should be ruled out and that's one of them. In 2008 I lost all my energy. Went from running 20-30 miles a week to laying on the sofa in between work days. I went to my doc and ASKED for my thyroid and blood counts to be checked. They were all normal. BUT I had something more sinister than thyroid or depression problems. The point is getting the blood check rules out things or gives a reason for symptoms. Since it wasn't my thyroid or my blood counts (not anemic) they kept looking and found a tumor in my small intestines that if left to grow, by now I'd be picking out songs for my funeral.
Beastie is right. Get stuff checked people.
I had my thyroid checked in February and even though my numbers came back ' normal'.. my number was very low. Leaning towards hyperthyroidism! I was thinking it was the opposite. My Vitamin D levels were very low too and she said that both of those things could make me feel bad, so she has me taking 2,000 mg. of Vitamin D every day but since I am in the so called ' normal range' for thyroid ( and yes, they checked the T3 and T4 levels) they aren't doing anything for that. I do think it's important to get your thyroid checked because so many people don't realize that your thyroid affects so many things. Best to get it checked for sure.
I ruv u long time xox

I go back in a few weeks after they check my blood work, urine and MRI. I can't go on living in pain. It is hard to stay cheerful when your in pain 24/7.
I hope he does something to help me! I am almost cripple in one side of my hips, the other freezes up when I try to walk or do too much work. I have neck pain, back pain and knee pain so bad I would cut them off when they start hurting. It is awful. So wish me luck and keep me in your prayer that this doctor will help. Oh, and wrist and arm pain if I stay on the computer too much.
