Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Three years ago, I had had my own apt for 10 years. My husband died and mentally I was a bit off for awhile. My social worker advised me to move into a personal care home, which I did. That's something I never should have done: I lost my freedom, control over my life. all my possessions, and my car. In addition, the local dental clinic advised me to have all my upper teeth extracted, which I did. I didn't realize how much a denture would cost and it would come out of my own pocket, since I make a couple of dollars too much to qualify for Medicaid. I hate the personal care home I live in. It's $1,000 a month and I can't even chew most of the food. I buy my own food and have it delivered from the local grocery store. I'm not allowed access to the kitchen so I can't make my own food. I want to get out of here so badly and I need help, which I can't find. I'd like a community type environment, which I can't afford. Most of them cost at least $3,000 a month. I can't bear the thought of staying here the rest of my life. I'm lonely, there's nothing to do, there are only 5 other women out of 17 people, none of which I'm close to. They wake us up at 6 AM every day, including weekends, and put us to bed at 7:30 every night. I have no support, no family, no friends. I never get to go off the premises to go shopping, or to a restaurant, or to the state parks like my husband and I used to do. I really miss my car. Even if I got my own apt, I'd have to replace furniture and cookware, which does not come cheap. And with COVID, the local organization which sold used furniture is not doing that now. I just checked out the local office of aging website, and they would not be helpful. I have a caseworker, who is useless, and a therapist, who at least does telehealth. I need somebody who will help me find a place where I have more independence and I can't seem to find anybody. I need help, real help.

According to His riches in glory refers to a biblical promise found in Philippians 4:19, which states that God will supply all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. This verse emphasizes God's provision and generosity towards believers.

I am 65 years old and am on disability.
I think you need friends who you can communicate with. It would be more bearable where you are if you have some friends in the home or outside who you can talk to. You should be able to find a new place to live since you have the incomes but not knowing anyone wherever you are will not solve your problem of loneliness. I understand how it is to be in a new place where you don't know anyone. I used to have more social life but hardly have any at the moment. What helps is I have been where I am since 1988 and my husband and daughter live with me (all three of us live together). It feels lonely sometimes or a lot of time with no social life outside home.
If you would like to connect with me, please feel free to send me PM. I live in Michigan. There are some housing for seniors in my town. I don't know how much they cost. I saw a very nice building. There are some government subsidized ones.
I'm about your age too, on disability and I'm home too much also. All I do is go for walks and go grocery shopping. My family is very small. Do you have family, grandchildren? I see others with large families and I think that helps. I don't know what to say b/c we're all so limited now. Maybe just take it one day at a time, live in the moment and things will get better. Good luck to you, if you feel like writing me, I could use another friend.
