Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

It's getting harder to convince myself that there's still hope. I've gained more weight, landing me at an oh so healthy 294lbs, every job I try to apply to has rejected or 'lost' my application, the place that my mother begged me to go back to ( the place she works) won't let me come back, I pride myself on the fact that I get off the couch, where I basically live, my house is to the point where it's probably not healthy to live there, my head hurts all the time, sometimes I wake up and just go right back to sleep until the next day because I don't want to function. Leaving the house is a freaking fairy tale... I draw, I write, but even that is starting to get hard... I just... I don't know why I bother existing anymore. I don't eat or I eat everything, I don't sleep or I sleep all day, I forget to drink for days at a time... I don't brush my hair, so it's just a mess of mats and tangles, when I shower, I just sit in the tub and wait for the water to go cold... there's just nothing left.
I'm not even a person anymore.

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

There is hope. I know it doesn't feel like it. Trust me. But the right job will come along, and things will start to fall into place. Please please don't give up. The world needs you. There must be something left, you have a purpose. Baby steps. Keep writing and drawing. I'm sure you're very talented.
Please take care.
@Stevethebear23 - Thanks so much for the kind words. A spa day would be marvelous. My tub is kinda... um... tiny. I think the word is tiny. Like I'm fairly sure it isn't even regulation size. The only thing that would ever help my migraines is oxy, I tried other things, but really the only way anything helped was if it knocked me out in the process.
It's like... I'm gonna be 21 soon. I'm supposed to be living it up, going out and getting drunk and living my life... but instead I'm pouring my heart out to a depression group while I wait for my art block to break.
@red47640
Thank you also for your kind words. My specific type of depression, as my therapist called it once, is vegetative melancholy. It's a lack of motivation so deep that I've been known to wake up, stare at the wall, and still be staring at the same wall 16 hours later. That does come with self-hate, hopelessness, regret, and anger. It was better back when I was in school, when it wasn't my choice and I had a structured day where I didn't have to decide to do things, but now that I've graduated, I kind of feel like I've been frozen in the exact same spot since that day.
I know how I feel and verbal therapy will never be helpful to me, unless I'm in a very bad place and need a bit of dragging. It will never fix me and there's no point in going.

Anyway, thanks for not reading up on my situation and giving a generic answer. Way to fit in there about my being fat. Great advice. Love ya.
I feel like it's a fact in my life that my depression is a chemical imbalance in my brain. Combined with that I feel as if my coping mechanisms are almost a form of self-punishment as a result of not being able to put into words the lack of happiness I felt for so long in my life. Before antidepressants.
Actually I tried to hide these feelings, even deny them, not always successfully. So much anger would buildup inside of me, resulting in self-hatred. Self-hatred becoming a coping mechanism that was an almost automatic response that I habitually seem to fall back on, even on my meds sometimes. Nevertheless I rely on my antidepressants like I rely on the air that I breathe. This I understand.
Would one visit to a primary care dr be an option? I get my antidepressants from mine. I'm way older than you, so at some point I remember asking a general practitioner for a prescription for antidepressants, explaining that I have a history of severe depression.
Your post helped me today. Thanks and never give up trying to come up with solutions. Stay strong.
I'm not sure if getting to a doctor would be an option, honestly, the doctor I was assigned a while back was... less than useful. She was very rude and didn't actually listen to my problem. She was actually disappointed when one of my tests came back negative. Other than that, I can go to a clinic, but I don't know that they'll give me a prescription. Even if they do, it'll cost about 600 dollars, which I don't exactly have laying around.
You have more power then you think you have, you just need to tap into it, that's all.
God Bless
Good luck
