Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Coping mechanisms. Well I was tortured, tormented, harassed, and humiliated on a daily basis in school myself so I know how you feel. The way I cope is I know all of the people who did me wrong are nobodys in the village I grew up in while I have accomplished a great deal and still have more to accomplish. I have done things I never thought I could do. Been strong for others when I was a trainwreck. Saved lives. Protected people with my life. Traveled the US. The list goes on and on. Gotta find the positives in each negative. If you need to talk my door is always open. I hope this helps
They're terrible sometimes. They really are. They'll never understand what they've done to you and they probably don't even care. They're sick bastards who are so insecure that they'd step all over others to try and elevate themselves a little. They're shallow bastards who are so absurd as to waste themselves on sex and alchohol and clothing.
Some of them are truly terrible.
I hope you know that you're better than all that. If you know what it's like to be the abused, you'll never abuse. But holding onto those people, expecting apologies or atonement from them, you're never going to get it. It's stupid, I know. But chances are they aren't going to change. Mine never will.
I'm trying really hard to forgive them, so that I don't waste time getting depressed over what they've done to me. I hope you'll consider trying the same. They don't deserve to be forgiven, but you deserve to not be trapped in the past.
I can't speak for the severity of your experience, but from mine I have tried to stick to either "forgive, but never forget", or "forget, but never forgive".
For some of my bullies, I understand that they were young and immature and thoughtless. They were going through changes that they weren't fully able to understand and lashed out on others. I was just unlucky to have been targeted. So I can forgive their bullying to an extent and it makes me feel somewhat better that at least I was a target who is able to move on from it. But I will always know that they are not people who have the ability or kindness to restrain themselves, let alone acknowledge their misdeeds.
For the people who bullied me in ways that I can never recover from, I cut them away from my life with all the methods I could think of. The circumstances of it are specific to me, so I'm not sure how helpful they are, but I am trying to forget them while steeling my anger and sense of injustice because it is what keeps them accountable for their actions. I feel like if I forgive them for it I would not be treating my feelings with the weight they deserve. I am currently also struggling to forget what happened and move forward (not "move on"...I'm not sure that's possible for me) with my life back towards the path it should have taken without what I'm trying to treat as a detour.
It takes time and trial and error to find what works for you. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you can find what you need.
