EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TRYING TO SAY!!!!!
geez!
As with Kate1971, do we now have to watch everything we say for fear of upsetting someone.?
I realize there are certain basic etiquitte rules when dealing with people i.e the golden rule), especially online BUT, being reported or banned and not knowing or getting a mere blanket statement explaining only that one was banned...well....solves nothing.
So is censorship next?
or online/emailed warnings?
and what is there to seperate the so-called trolls who just create a profile to log on and stir things up with the sole intent of hurting others from the occasional "well-behaved" member who gets offended by anothers words and vents their opinion only to find themselves warned/banned?
You know?
I'm just trying to see both sides, I mearly want to see DS be able to clearly differentiate the issues here.
Thanks for reading,

my inquiries are not getting answered.
I hear what he is saying for the most part but...I agree fully with your point of view.
A member deserves and should demand a valid reason for being reported. Not necessarily who did the reporting but an explanation of the circumstance that warranted one being reported.
Oh well, as long as the good ones here rely on each other for help and don't get caught up in all the petty bs, it'll all come out in the wash.
...hopefully...
hey everyone - i'd love to offer "clear" guidelines, but i have to tell you, i've been doing this 10 years and there's really no way to effectively cover the thousands of potential issues that can arise, and even when we do, it quickly falls into a "he said, she said" debate and we start to squabble over the specific terms.
at the risk of sounding rude, i don't think it's that hard to stay within our terms of service. trust me, we'll always give the benefit of the doubt to folks, and we understand that in the heat of passion folks sometimes say things that they didn't mean.
we don't take action until we see repeated cases of truly inappropriate behavior - personal attacks or insults, threats, or other forms of obvious harrassment or evil. oftentimes, folks on our community can't understand what their friend could have done, but remember that what happens on the boards is only part of the equation. if someone sends a threat of physical harm to someone via a message or journal comment or hugbook, that also violates our terms.
the biggest trap for folks on DS, i've found the hard way, is biting your tongue and not retaliating to a provocation. someone insults you, so you insult back. i understand the urge, but that doesn't make it ok in a community like this.
i know it's frustrating not to have hard rules, and i can promise you that we've had more meetings here than i care to admit about what's ok and not ok. if you've got specific questions, you're always welcome to ask and i can give you my best guess. we don't have a "bible" here, and there are others who help out with member care, but i think we're pretty close to on the same page regarding this stuff.
please continue to remember that it's neither our goal nor intended purpose to monitor these boards...we don't look over your sholder and we couldn't even if we wanted to. we simply respond when alerted to a problem.
