Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but I just need to get this off my chest. We (my family and I) and not poor, but not wealthy, we are an average middle class family. I don't know if it's a self-worth issue or what, but I hate it when family members buy things for me, especially Christmas and my birthday. I get this overwhelming guilt and I would rather not get anything. The only things I'm fine with people buying me is nesecities or small things, but clothes, art supplies, dance supplies, books, anything like that, I get sick over people buying for me. I feel like they could spend their money on better things, like my siblings and themselves. I don't need any of this, they don't need to buy things for me, and I understand why they do it, but I wish they wouldn't. I just want to get through these holidays with as little stress as possible, and I'm already dreading Christmas morning. Help?

It's official. They invented a washing machine that notifies you by text your laundry is done because of idiots like my hubby. Gotta redo the load b/c he left it in the washer overnight. EW.The skink caught by Dahlia two days ago remains hidden under our baseboards. WEon't come out for anything. I give up. I'll have to cope with the stink of dead skink which is likely its fate. Love Hubby but he...

Twenty-five years since 9/11 attacks on the US changed things (or not).Current NYC Mayor Mamdani has released a shi*-ton of files about the air quality as it was known to be by the Giuliani administration 20-plus years ago. Turns out, yes, they knew it was that toxic. And, since people of all faiths died that day, let's not go into that, please. They were firefighters, bankers, cops, cooks,...

You can also choose to do something good with the time you get off for your Christmas break, maybe go volunteer and help others. There are many
Food Banks, Soup Kitchens, Animal Shelters that get extra busy at this time of the year....giving service to others less fortunate than yourself is always a good way to make yourself feel better.
I hope you have wonderful Christmas and not be so hard on yourself.
Take care,
Kat
One of my brothers feels the same as you and presents make him very upset. So I've learned not to get him anything, not even a card.
Thank you for sharing. I have a friend who never fail to give me gifts during special occasions. She said that it makes her happy to share her blessings. I also give gifts but in my church, my Pastor does not want us to give gifts during Christmas. Instead of buying gifts for the church, he wants us to help those who are in need. We regularly volunteer to Women and Men’s shelter. It made me so happy seeing them smiling because we feed them physically and spiritually. Don’t feel guilty. Giving brings joy and I think that’s their intention in giving gifts to you.
Merry Christmas! Take care, praying for you for peace. God bless.
