Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

So, in continuation of this job situation, I ended up getting a formal letter yesterday. They want me to do online professional development about how to control a classroom, I guess that is the main issue, they felt like students were walking all over me. They were and i'm not going to debate that. My main issue is all of this other petty stupid stuff that they brought up: logins, keys, restroom, asking me if I have a medical condition-none of this sits right with me and gives me the impression there is another motivation.
At any rate, it was upsetting to get the letter. It summarized the meeting that I had with the district. The letter stated at the end if there are any other concerns about performance or behavior that I will be let go, period.
Some of the criticism I agree with and others I don't. They don't want me working in a middle school grade level becuase they felt that the students just took over me. That is fair, I think that also I have worked in four districts across about 40 schools or so with no issue in the whole time that I worked there, seems to me that it is one place that stands out and I don't feel this should color everything or the entire job placements. I can see it from the agency's angle, they don't want someone who is going to get run over when out there at these job sites, maybe it's too much risk for them.
Still, I really don't like that the meeting was opened with asking me if I have a medical condition and my bathroom usage, it colored everything else that might seem like reasonable feedback and smacks of discrimination on some level. I'm not arguing that I have great classroom control, I never did at the middle school level, what I am debating is this other laundry list of what I think are irrelevant factors.
Some other opportunities outside of education have come up. I got an offer through upwork to do some work up to 30 hours per week, it pays the same as what I was making, and has nothing to do with students or a classroom. I did get my master's in something else, and for obvious reasons here. I also had a meeting with vocational rehab where we discussed several things, a new career, and recruitment. Yesterday I also got a text from a friend that he passed my resume to someone who owns a startup and that they were interested.
What really used to bug me when I was in the classroom full time was that when I would try to assign consequences, these consequences were always shot down. This created huge problems. For example, I counseled someone about not stealing work off of the internet and to cite sources. I got into big trouble for this and was told never to bring it up again, which I found totally bizarre. After all, citing research sources is part of the curriculum and you can in fact get into major hot water if you plagarize someone's book, music, etc and people have had to do big payouts for this.
I don't know, I really didnt' think this was going to escalate this severely. It also goes to show to listen to your intuition. I had a very slight inlking when I saw this job on the list of jobs on the dashboard not to do it. I didn't realize the extent to which they were essentially compiling a s*** list on me for some really irrelevant things. If some of this had been brought up earlier (some of the things they mentioned were like a year old) I would have been much more inclined to think it was legitimate feedback.
I'm thinking of canceling my assignments going forward-I feel like I can't risk anything, like if I were to go to the bathroom someone is going to run back and report it. I'm working in different locations but still...

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

It sux and it hurts

I hope you get another job.
If they are directly asking you about a medical condition then they better be able to prove it’s truly related to job performance. They are skimming a line of what is legal to ask.
