Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

For as long as I can remember, I have felt depressed. Feeling alone, unsatisfied with life, used, invalidated, confused and hopeless consumed me, even till this day.
"I wish I had done better" that's what I tell myself everyday. I regret not choosing a major in college that would have guaranteed me a successful career. At the time, I didn't believe in myself that I could do the "harder" majors. Funny enough, I ended up graduating at the top of my communications major. My primary focus was to just graduate. I thought that everything would fall in place after that. I was wrong. I have jumped between 10 different jobs. I don't know what I want to do with my life, and that's scary at the age of 33. How long will this suffering continue for? I want to feel like I have a purpose. My greatest fear is depending on someone like my parents for the rest of my life. I feel stuck and without faith. My heart is broken.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

does that sound like a good case of depression? I think it does....I take med for help with depression....it at least keeps me from wanting to end my own life.....
sorry to be debbie downer tonight but your post hit me as so much where I was and seeing where I am now I know I have not got the strength to make changes that would allow any major changes in my existence.....I am not unhappy but yes it is a non ecstatic existence within a deep depression....
I am old enough now that every day could be my last....and I live one day at a time which is why I am not unhappy....unless I have a bad day kind of like yesterday in fighting with my gf....then so far no sleep tonight and no desire to talk to gf now and thinking maybe forever....that sucks....puts me back at alone again....naturally....
sorry to steal your thread.....I hope you get something solid to start looking forward to every day.....be it a man or a job or a pet or a child whatever.....something for you would be nice...if I could give it I would.....hugs bill
Les-than-zero, you are right, I need to just sit in my room or somewhere relaxing and think hard about what I want to do. I have to relive the memory of my life to see what brought me joy. I also need to come to terms with what happened. It’s now or never, thank you all.
If I had waited until I figured out my purpose in life, I would probably still be frustrated, unfulfilled and unhappy.
Live, and life comes to you.
I'm sorry you are feeling this way. Depression is so awful, and I'm glad you have this support site. I can understand what you're saying. I had goals for myself that I didn't make (publish a novel, or at least a book of poetry, by age 30...then 40...then...), so that brings me down if I stop & think about them. And I know I could've done more with my life (yet still can) regarding education (but I could never find something that I really felt passionate about, career-wise). Volunteering/volunteer-work as a side thing can really be rewarding. volunteermatch.org is a good way to start looking. Otherwise, yeah....the gloom, grey void that is depression just gets in the way of everything, or a lot of things, at varying degrees with little to no warning. I hope you keep posting & sharing on here. We all benefit. :) <3
