HI Guys,
My depression is like a roller coaster, sometimes I am feeling rather good. I try to keep positive thoughts in my mind. But then there are days, like today, when I feel worthless. I am feeling lonely, the friends I used to have in my community have moved. Two out of state and the other to another part of the state. We keep in contact via online, but it's hard. I work at Home Depot, a job I can't stand. I've been there 2 years. I have some vacation time coming, I am thinking of visiting my friend who moved to KS. Not sure yet.
I find it hard to be motivated to change things. I am good at procrastinating or allowing an unhappy situation to continue.
I was in counseling until last Nov (I was going to the counseling group for 5 years) I felt that my last counselor didn't really help me in the ways I wish she had. I did tell her what I wanted from her, but she just mainly just sat there and didn't really contribute.
My current insurance isn't covered with the group I was. I just decided to take a break from counseling.
I am living with a retired lady, I've been in my current living situation for a little over a year. She went on vacation this week, so I am alone. I'm trying to keep my spirits up, it's raining today so that is not helping.
I just wonder what you all do when you feel down. I'm also feeling rather worthless today.
thanks

I got an email from Kohl's that I had a 40% off coupon for today and tomorrow only. It took me about an hour but I placed an order and got some great deals. I have been wanting a new dress. I like dressing up sometimes. My birthday is coming up and I have dinner plans at a nice restaurant. But, honestly, I'm a little out of control again. I went through this in the fall. I bought...

Has anyone else noticed that clearly speaking and doing things intentionally is liberating because it helps combat the feeling of depression and a sense of hopelessness? Let me share a little more: in my experience, when those who have tried to project a hidden agenda that is obviously not aligned with integrity and well-being, it's best to be firm and speak clearly from self-awareness and...

I know the feeling of just not wanting to do anything, but lately I have broken myself out of that habit by forcing myself to do things and then it does get easier. Hope you're feeling better today :)
I don't know anything about your life but being on here has helped to take my mind off of me and my 'lack of a life'. I talk to strangers and I love it. I'm sorry you feel worthless. You're not. No one is worthless. I hate that word.
The first thing I feel like telling You is that since your depression is like a roller coaster, You should try to slowly get free from it, instead of just enduring it, I believe depression in general is a roller coaster and theres plenty of examples of people who for months feel horrible and then have some kinda peace and joy in their lives perhaps because of the circumstances around and then the suffer starts again.
I understand the world around us and what happens to us and in our lives affect us but when we absorb all the negative that happens, there is no way something positive can be born within, I am saying this because perhaps You try to keep positive and thats wonderful but maybe theres negative stuff hidden within, maybe things You been carrying throughout your life and that may keep You from having a good attitude towards a problem or towards an unpleasant reality and changing your attitude about procrastination.
Sometimes we carry many aspects of the past within and that keeps us from moving towards a better future and enjoying a better present. I dont know what Youve been through in life but if You know You continue to carry negative aspects of it within, You should try to get free, let go of any kinda blame, shame and even sadness from the dissapointments Youve had before, because as long as You continue to carry such stuff, it will affect your present and future. Such feelings exist naturaly but its not natural that they continue to live within after the situation has passed, specially if it was long ago. Perhaps managing this, slowly, one thing at a time, it will help You life your spirit up and bring You a whole new attitude towards life.
Hope my message gets to be useful for You
About the loneliness, it is a hard thing sometimes, I been through it too, much more than I would like but it doesnt have to be hard at all times, it can be productive and enjoyable as long as You do not feed what harms You during it, but feeds what makes You feel peaceful and good and since You have a chance to visit friends, Go !!!! Do not hesitate, do not leave it for tomorrow if You can do today, its not a chance You get every week or month so why not do it, think about it ....
Take care and be well !!!
I think I understand how you feel. Some of us are genetically prone to depression and then we can feel like we are in a rut with no hope.
It sounds like you are lonely? It's not easy to just "pull yourself out of it". I, too am experiencing some life circumstances that I think are adding to my depression, though I have been on the mood roller coaster since I got sick many years ago.
I was out having surgery and my mood was so much better. That was hopeful for me. I am going to send you a friend requests. Good friends are what life is about. I am licensed to counsel ad see a counselor and I agree with what others say: there are many types of counseling. A "listening ear" can be helpful, but I think that you should have goals and a treatment plan. I am beginning to feel like I need goals too vs. "the listening"....so good luck and hope to connect
