Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
My depression triggers are usually songs, movies and seasons. I associate everything with emotions.
I am a strange bird.
For me it is certain people, family, at work, that I repeatedly end up feeling depressed, anxious, traumatized or depressed around.
Sounds like a duck? It really is trauma but too hard to classify as true PTSD. If I have the energy I try to develop strategies to offset the trauma if possible.
For example if being in a room with two people who leave me out of a conversation I will try to get up and leave the area. If someone says or does something offensive I will ask them to repeat what they said or gently confront them.
If someone takes attitude with me, I will change mine to mirror the change in their attitude.
Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
Enough ranting...Yes, there are definitely triggers. How do people manage these?
And as far as the laughing happy people, when I am depressed it is more than a trigger it is like a thunder clap. My hairdresser is so cheery and upbeat with her full life and is completely out with the fact that she hates depressed people....she's becoming a trigger.
Enough ranting and highjacking the topic...
