Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I am struggling with whether DS is helping me or not.
There are times I think it deepens the depression.
There are two groups I feel very drawn too and there are very few posts on them. Maybe 2-3 a week. Makes me feel like very few people have the problems I do.
Then there are the times you post problems and no one replies. Those are hard.
And most of all there are the people who friend me and then disappear off the site. I have been a member less than a year and have had probably half the people I friended quit posting and participating on here. Many were the ones I felt the strongest connection to. Who really seemed to get me. Some talked to me a lot at first and it was very hard losing them as I thought I had really made an online friend and would always have someone to talk to when things go wrong. And it seems like many of them just got over the problems that still draw me into that black hole I keep trying to climb out of. How did they get better and I can't.
So does anyone else feels worse after logging on sometimes? Or am I alone in that too?

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...

When you feel this space isn't really helping you with your struggles, it is probably best to take a lil vacation from it. We all have days in which we are stronger, or perhaps less so. And when we are more vulnerable, many things can hit us very hard--- and it can compound what you're already dealing with.
Do what you need to regain perspective and feel a bit more in control again.
And try and remember, everyone here is coping with situations we may or may not know from back to front. People come and go---and yet many very fine people stay and try their best to help newcomers as much as they can.
The amount of replies any given post can get can also depend on when you post it, and what time it is, etc. Sites are busier and quieter at different moments in time.
Often, just one great response is all we really need to help.
And, You're not alone!!----please don't think that at all.
I was just thinking about a similar but not exactly same question. and yes I often post and don't get replies, or maybe some replies, that always helps when I do get replies.
On a positive note, when people do reply, it has helped me in times of crisis. Also, it's nice to know that there are people out there who know what I'm going through. So, in that aspect, DS is somewhat helpful. But, I just don't trust the internet.
I just posted about Robot Hugs yesterday to the autism group:

And "Hyperbole and a Half" always makes me laugh:

I go to boredpanda.com too.
If I feel like venting off some steam, I sometimes will go follow politicians or others on twitter or FB and tell them how I feel about how they are doing their jobs. *smiles*
I find I am "triggered" at DS often over the comments people have in support that I feel are dehumanizing verbal abuse towards people who are not even around to defend themselves. I get so upset about that stuff I have to go someplace else and cannot even join some groups because I know they will just be full of it. It's gross to me and they justify it, somehow and somehow I am the bad guy asking them to please stop being abusive people. I am somehow trying to take their voices away with this?
Ugh.
Check out those sites if you like toons (and by depressed people, too!) and I hope that you will get some smiles there.
I tend to forget groups that don't have daily activity. unless if it's a less important(to me) group, like an entertainment or common interest type of thing.
Journaling can help, and you will see who, if anybody is taking the time to support you. Keep reaching out like this. I always feel bad when I see a thread than has 0 responses. especially if it is in the Crisis center! But I think they are just not seen all the time. I've noticed when i'm really feeling bad and finally change my "face" to reflect it, I have gotten kind support and it has helped me. good luck to you.
SOMETIMES ITS NOT.

Thank you for posting, and all the great answers.
God bless you,

More than I post. Often I don't get big responses which can be hard. I also don't comment all the time. Some seem to have close friends on here and I don't. Now we use to have meebo that chat it was Instant messaging. I really miss that cause we could chat with each other.
