I shouldn't have mentioned my issue with disability,
This post is supposed to be a cry for help from people
who have to work. I need to hear from people who have
to work so that I can continue on. Anybody willing to help?

I have to work. I don't qualify for government assistance because I don't want to treat my depression with meds. I am hitting another low lately and I want to just go home so bad!!!! I would say that more people have to work than not.

There should be a appointed doctor from the social security office that evaluates your disability. Are they saying that you make too much money to get on social security?

Yes, I do have to work. Depression often makes it impossible for me to get out of bed. But, I almost lost my job a couple weeks ago for missing too much work. I'm on very thin ice.

I dont pay any attention to what others are doing or are not doing. A teacher once told us that the easiest way to be disillusioned was to pay too much attention to what is going on with others. I find that to be true.

Most people have to work to make a living and provide a roof over their head. There are plenty of people in life that could be a job loss away from homelessness.

Not "having" to work doesn't mean life is a bowl full of roses and that all you get to do is have fun.

Try having too much time on your hands that leads you to a deeper and deeper depression because all you have is your thoughts.

Work gives people purpose and meaning. When you can't work because of illness it often makes you feel worthless and loathe yourself even more. That is what it is like for me.

It certainly also does not mean you people sit easily financially.

The grass is not always greener on the other side. Some people would love to be able to hold down a steady job. Myself included. That is why I am in individual therapy, group therapy, attend a support group, completed a workshop, and am applying for vocational rehab.

And yes part of this is because I have to work so I can keep my home. And you know what? I won't mind "having" to work if they keeps a roof over my head and gets me out of this mental hell hole I've been going through from not being able to work.

I think it sucks that people with illness do not always get the support they need so they aren't faced with potential homelessness when their illness makes it difficult. That's terrible and I hate that you face that.

But I don't feel sorry you have to work when most people have to and many of us would love to get rid of our issues to be able to lead a normal productive life.

Honestly it almost comes across as you mocking those who are too disabled to work.

Yes, I have to work. I don't think I'm as seriously depressed as some in here, enough to even thinking about applying for disability.

Yes, it is nice to earn one's own cash, but, I must say, it is nice to WIN money too! I won a decent sum from a $5 scratch-off card in the Florida Lottery a couple months ago, and money won is sweeter and happens quicker than money earned!

One has to be careful not to let money won cripple one emotionally. Even if I win a big one, I'm still going to work, but I'll cut back to very part-time. I will quit working as a security guard, which I could care less about and sometimes find downright annoying, dealing with bitchy people in a hurry, and just work filming people's weddings, when people are on their best behavior, which I find at least somewhat enjoyable. I'll also continue to do blog-writing.

We've got to do SOMETHING...I think...to give ourselves a reason to get out of bed in the morning and feel useful!

Australia's budget released tonight is going to effect Disability The government is tightening the criteria for receiving the disability pension and will bring in a regime of rolling eligibility checks.
Disability pension recipients who are under 35 will also face tougher criteria to remain on the pension, with the focus on those who can work to any capacity being reintegrated into the workforce.

How that is going to effect me I've no idea yet. But thought it would help you to know your not only one going through it even though it would be anther country to you.

I think if it's at all possible to work that it's better for us. I know it's better for me. Otherwise I would sleep all the time

Lots of people abuse the system making it harder for those who are really qualified and it really pisses me off at times. I do
Not even bother applying g for this reason. I feel i am apable of working. I simply cant afford child care at this time and I prefer to have a job. But I think in your situation.....you get screwed by people who abuse the system.

It sounds to me like it's so damn difficult to get approved for Disability that it would simply be easier to land a job and work, if you're at all capable!

The government MAKES the disability approval process difficult, because there's only so much money to go around, and because it's always cheaper for the already strained economic system in the government if everybody works. Working taxpayers are the ones who have to pay disability for those who don't work, and the money is running out.

Meanwhile, fat-cats in Washington are skimming their $250k+ salaries off the system, and who knows what THEY do for that money. Yes, it's unfair...
