Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I think I just need to vent. I'm getting over a bad flu that I've had for about a week. I made sure to take a subsitute job working at a high school, not with super young kids or on a really physical job, as it's a much better fit. I have to get up a lot earlier, but that is OK. One thing on the positive/plus side was that I had an enjoyable day at work.
Anyway, a long time issue is that I need to move out of the house I am renting (from my family). Bascially we are too enmeshed (this is what my therapist would say). I would agree. I would move out now, except I'm back in college and only working part time. The other option for renting at this reduced price would be to split a bedroom in an apartment with another grad student. That would be so awkward, sharing a bedroom. I haven't done that since I was 18. If I were to get an apartment or rent a whole room, it would be double. I'm considering it. My therapist and I discussed that it's probably not a good time to move when I am getting set to graduate this fall. She thinks my mom is threatening to sell the house or have me move out right now on purpose to screw up graduation. IDK whether that's true or not, but the timing sure is bad. It would be a lot for that much upheaval right now, but I won't rule it out as this is getting to be ridiculous, running to laundromat, paying for repairs...
I'm just extremely tired of the hassle. Even though the rent is low, I'm currently spending a lot on repairs. I will have spent six hundred dollars currentlyon the dryer for which the fuse keeps blowing. The air vent had to be cleaned. I'm either hanging up my clothes or running to the laundromat. This has been going on for a couple of weeks. The dryer ppl didn't show up today, after work and fuse number three needs to be installed. They claimed that the time we had on the schedule for after work "just wasn't good for them." A stackable dryer would have been $200.00. This is getting old.
Mom is always texting or calling with some complaint. The same, over and over. Last month it was the air conditioning bill was too high. (I live in the desert) She said she wanted to raise the rent. Fine-raise it, but stop constantly complaining or say it's time to move. They didn't fix the sprinklers right and the spiggot would go off, gushing water once a day. Every time my dad comes over to "fix" it, something goes wrong. Something tells me it's intentional that it doesn't get fixed. My parents are extremely narcissistic. Now, it's leaking again. She texts me this morning that "the water bill is double, what are you doing?" He was just over here "fixing" it, and suddenly there are problems-again. Really? Suddenly the bill is Double? Nothing is different. I'm working out of the home. Went outside when I got home to see the wet ground again in the same area as last time. My guess is now the valve is gushing out water on the timer, not at 11 PM anymore, but mid-day. Interesting how that works. I disagree with my therapist that moving before graduation is a bad idea. I think it might prove to be really good. One day when I had Covid my dad just arbitrarily showed up here banging and banging on the door...with all the money I'm spending on repairs, this low rent is not really worth it anymore.
In the middle of all this, I called to find out why my migraine medicine never came. I have severe migraines and my provider found a preventative treatment that eradicated my migraines. I've been using it for the past year. Best thing that has ever happened to me. They tell me today on the phone, "bad news, your insurance company is denying it going forward." I was totally devastated. The rescue medications are also very expensive. The preventative meds are $2,000 per month! But they were covered. The manufacturer does not participate in a patient program for cheap or free meds. The rescue meds are $1,000 per month! Those are covered by the manufacturer to get at zero cost. But those were the bad old days-back when I had to try to stop a migraine after it starts which is far more difficult. With the preventative I just never got migraines. It was so hard. Typically I had to take a cocktail of meds and lay in a dark room until it was gone. When I'm working I don't have that luxury. Sometimes it was so disabling. I could barely see, lights in front of my face, just terrible. In the middle of the dryer people not showing up and my mom texting me, right after this I find out my meds are denied by insurance. I just started crying right there in the break room.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Firstly I am so sorry to read that your medication isn't covered
That sux...Have you talked with your doc to see if there is anything comparable??
My 2 cents with regards to moving
Moving is a huge psychological stressor
It's up there with getting married or a death
So perhaps having to do it twice is a big deal
It's towards the end of August now so it won't be that long before you graduate
I agree with your therapist if you can hang in a short while longer
I know it must be awful when you're feeling baited but once school is done you're free to work more and make more money thus hopefully only have to make one move
Big hug of peace and support....xo
My suggestion on this (and I have been through medication denials before! Ugh!) is to call your insurance company first. Ask them why are they suddenly not covering this? (They did cover it before, right?)
They will probably offer to send a form to your doctor for him to fill out (or ask them to send it to your doctor), stating why you need this medication. In other words, if they covered it before, and are now denying it, it might be solved by a simple note from your doctor. You are essentially in the "appeals" phase. I have been through this many, many times. You need to get something called "Prior Authorization". It's a simple form that the insurance company can fax to your doctor, your doctor fills it out, and sends it back to your insurance company. Ask your insurance company on the phone to put this in as "urgent" so that you will hear back within 24-48 hours.
Also, is there a generic of this medication, by chance? Could you try that?
I hope how I explained it made sense. I actually have to go through this once a year, the "prior authorization" form, sent to my doctor. It's actually pretty easy... (even if how I explained it didn't make sense, I hope it did make sense).
Basically, call your insurance company and request a Prior Authorization form to be sent to your doctor's office.
You are in the "appeals" process now, and you have rights.
Let me know if that works or if you need more explanation about it. I am almost certain you can get this medication. If they covered it before, they will cover it again. For some of my meds, the form has to be renewed once a year. It's a simple process, really. If insurance will fax the form to your doctor, and he fills it out and faxes it right back, you should be able to get your medication in 2 days from now. You can do it!! It's not that hard. :-)
I used to take Strattera for ADHD and then it go too expensive and I couldn't afford it. Then I was talking to my psychiatrist about it and he said there was a blood pressure medication that was being used for ADHD. I have been taking it for many years. So maybe there is an alternative for you too? Look it up online or ask your pharmacist. I have never had a migraine but I don't envy you at all. I'm glad you are working with older students.
As to your home situation, that is stressful! Why does your Mom have to stress you out so soon to graduation? I don't know why your therapist said she was doing it on purpose. That would be really mean. My parents have both been gone for over 20 years but there are times when I'm upset that I really need them for advice! They were always on my side! I feel bad for you.
Your attitude, despite everything, is really healthy! I'm proud of you!
