Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I am thinking of going back in the hospital. Haven't been hospitalized since last year, but have been having such a hard time and I can't handle it alone. Am not suicidal this time(though there are days I want to die ) but have been more depressed and anxious and just can't take it anymore. I see my therapist every 2 weeks, but I think I need more than that at this point. Haven't been on antidepressants in a year. I was doing fine for a while. Was on Prozac for several years, then that stopped working, then was on Celexa several years and the same thing happened. After that tried Zoloft, which didn't work, same with Effexor. Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner I saw did Genomind, the DNA test which is supposed to help show which meds would work best. She then tried me on Wellbutrin which gave me body tremors and I had to be weaned off of that. By that time the major life issue that initially caused my decades of depression and anxiety was basically resolved(childhood sexual abuse by my brother; after a call from my therapist my brother actually called me and apologized for what he did, that it had been bothering him for a while, etc). Soon after I started to feel better than I ever had. Have had other issues come up in the past year (not related and which I've posted about lately) and am back in a not so good place of depression and anxiety. Luckily it's not as severe a depression as I've had before but enough to severely interfere with my life. I am back on Ativan but it's not enough. I NEED HELP! Don't know what to do anymore....

I got an email from Kohl's that I had a 40% off coupon for today and tomorrow only. It took me about an hour but I placed an order and got some great deals. I have been wanting a new dress. I like dressing up sometimes. My birthday is coming up and I have dinner plans at a nice restaurant. But, honestly, I'm a little out of control again. I went through this in the fall. I bought...

Has anyone else noticed that clearly speaking and doing things intentionally is liberating because it helps combat the feeling of depression and a sense of hopelessness? Let me share a little more: in my experience, when those who have tried to project a hidden agenda that is obviously not aligned with integrity and well-being, it's best to be firm and speak clearly from self-awareness and...

I know that it's hard to see that things might improve, but I assure you that they will. Hang in there and do whatever you need to do in order to feel better.
Wishin you peace.
Ultimately the important thing is that she was able to overcome these demons and write two important books. I think one lesson is that its understandable to feel bad, but those who can overcome this can make important contributions to our society.
"I went to a Broadway play today and the playbill had an interview with a young actor who was quoted as saying that he chooses roles based on working with people he likes and parts that will help him grow. The fuck! I choose parts based on working with people who will hurt and humiliate me, and roles that will help me regress and fill my heart with self-loathing. I’d like to play a potato, Cordelia, or Carmella Soprano." https://betsylerner.com
She explains,
"I wrote a book called THE FOREST FOR THE TREES. It's an advice book for writers, though it's more about what makes writers tick. For four years, I blogged every day about the agony of writing and publishing, and the self loathing that afflicts most writers. A community of like-minded malcontents gathered and thus ensued a grand conversation. I post less frequently now, but hopefully with as much vitriol. Please join in!
Gluttons for punishment can scroll through the archives. If I’ve learned one thing about writers, it’s this: we really are all alone. Thanks for reading. Love, Betsy"
I think one point is that our society does not need all optimists, but those who acknowledge their doubts can make the world a better place.
Anyway, I hope to get the help I need before I get any worse....
I wish you well. Please let us know how you are when you can. You'll be in good hands!
