Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
You can run but you can't hide from your problems; nor can you run forever..
AS far as every one else, drinking is known as self medicating....AND, when is the right time as apposed to... when is the wrong time....? I say bring on the 'moonshine'.......
party on dudes......!
Each time you reach for your next drink, ask yourself "What am I Drinking?" (not the alcohol, but what in your heart are you "drinkning").
I hope that doesn't mean you are regularly driving drunk, because mentally ill or nor, that's a conscious decision which could kill someone else.
Alcohol is a depressant. End of. I tried it on a daily basis for three years, and it does not work.
How do you feel the morning after? How much do you need each time? Is it getting to be more and more? How much time do you lose every day as a result of drinking? Is it your aim to numb yourself every day and commit a slow, almost invisible suicide because then no one will catch you or stop you?
You have said you are in a bad place now, and I understand that. Professional help does cost a lot, and I know that AA doesn't suit everyone, but there are other options. You're still young, and you don't know how much damage you're doing to your liver unless you have tests done.
Happiness due to alcohol is fleeting and although it's cheap and accessiblke it's also an addictive confidence trick.
I use to drink myself when I was younger. I know the high of alcohol and how it makes you feel less depressed. (Until the next day).
I have know people that drink with liver damage and die from it. It is a horrible death. AA and NA helped me and it does not cost anything.
It does creep and get out of control when used to numb problems. If it's not a problem, try quitting for a few days. Do you get shaky? Can't sleep? Nausea? Irritable?
I thnk you should talk to your doctor as well. You're playing with fire.
Be well.
Yes, it releases inhibitions, as well as whatever "beast" may be lurking in there, in you, until you pee it out, and the buzz subsides, and then you absolutely feel like shit, and need more alcohol to resume the high, and so it goes.
And, yes, you do NOT want to kill someone when behind the wheel of a car! If you're gonna drink, drink in your own place.
Me, I like exercise. It creates that same feeling, that same high, that same endorphin rush, and the buzz lasts a whole day, much longer than alcohol.
May I suggest a gym membership instead of the bottle? You're young and male, look like you'd be very strong if you did cardio and lift the weights, bro!
Try it!
Also, get involved with an exercise GROUP. You need that continual support and motivation. Plus, exercising with a group is just plain FUN.
You can't fly with the eagles when you're surrounded by turkeys. I don't know what kind of crowd you're hanging out with now, but most people in your age group, early 20s, are hell-bent on self-destruction. So was it the same when I was your age. I remember early 20s well.
You all seem "cool" when you're all drinking; like you said, you feel on top of the world; not so cool when you're all hurling into the toilet bowl at 5am or limping around the apartment like a bunch of decrepid old fucks, zombies, next day with horrible headaches.
