I have been on anywhere from 3-10mg, currently at 7.5mg and fiddling with the dose(INR out of whack). One lady on here is on 15mg. You need what you need -it is what it is!

I'm at 15mgs. Some people are warfarin resistant. Took a while for me to just accept that I need a lot of warfarin to get my INR up there. It doesn't help that doctors and nurses always look shocked when they see how much you're taking.

Don't get too hung up on the dosage. Whatever works for you is what's important.

Everyone responds to Coumadin differently. There is a patient in Colorado who has to take 30mgs per day to maintain a 2.0 to 3.0 INR. Then on the opposite end of the spectrum you have patients who can take as little as 5mg per day to maintain that same level.

I am a lifer on coumadin. I take 6mg per day to maintain a low target range INR of 1.5 to 2.0 as a preventative measure.

I'm currently on 4mg, which once I get my INR results tomorrow I know they will say its too high and I'll be put on something closer to 3.75mg.

I personally wish I had a higher dose. Warfarin's dosage can differ by 20%, which when the difference of .25mg can be the difference of having an INR of 2.5 or 3.5, thats a big deal.

Hi, many time 5 mg Warfarin makes my INR high. Means it crossed 3.0. but the target is set 2 to 2.5 for me. So 4mg (Daily) is perfect for me...

One more thing i want to add here, my hematologist guided me that do not take any food before and after taking tab. Atleast one hour. So my schedule is daily at 6pm i takes Warf and no food in between 4pm to 7pm. and timing is fixed from last 1.5 years..consult to ur doc abt this...

Thanks, everyone. I'm curious about the timing. I was never told to take my coumadin at any particular time or with/without food. Has anyone else received advice about this?

I was told just to take it at the same time every day. I take mine every day between 5:30-6:30 pm.

I agree with RMB, most physicians recommend it to be taken around 6pm.

I believe that the reason doctors recommend taking your dose at 5:30pm or later is because that will (obviously) be after any appointments to check INR level. That way, the dose can be changed if needed to be on that day.

same principle if it needs adjusting etc I can do it after my appointment but I take mine before bedtime... I found that 6 pm coupled with work - home - cooking etc I was in danger of forgetting to take it so now my routine is everynight before bedtime - tablets at the side of the bed - it works for me.

That is the fist time I hear about taking
a-coags with no food(hour after/before).
Hmmmm, some doctors like to rewrite the books(re-invent the wheel).
I wish they all got together and decided on one set of diagnose and treatment.
They got together on INR, why can't they go further then that?
We are talking of the same condition, be it in Europe, Australia,Africa, US or Canada...

I take 7mg of warfarin a day and my INR is stable at 2.0 - 2.5.
I've been so stable that I see my doc once every 2 months now.
Used to go once a week, then every other week, then once a month and after 3 years of being stable I keep trips to the doc at a minimum.

Hi - right now I take 7.5mg daily - but for a while it was different every day - becuz they couldn't get it stable...that was when I was taking it at around 6pm. I started taking it later - right before bed and now I have been between 2.0-3.0 for almost a month. I think the main thing is just make sure you take it at the same time every day...whatever works!

I am taking 8 mg daily. I am on a maintenence dose to keep my INR 1.5-1.9 My DVTs were about 6 years ago, and this is just a way to prevent further occurances
