Go to the ER, you dont work around the clock and you can go after work. Better safe than sorry. Meaning that if it is a clot it can break loose and go to your lungs, or even worse kill you. Gosh if I had only known the symptoms and had people like these great folks on here to talk to my PE may have never happened, you sure dont want to go that route. Please heed everyones advice and go get it checked out. This is really something serious and not to be taken lightly. We are all speaking from exprience and are having to deal with the after effects which you sure dont want to do.

Don't wait!! Go to the ER. DVT and PE's are serious and you don't want to wait if there is even a small chance that is what is going on. You don not want complications because you will be out of work awhile. If you go now - you might be able to just take it easy at home and get through it all a lot easier. I waited and I was in such terrible pain and off work for over a week. Don' t wait!! We talk from experience and you should really take care of you. Work will be there when you return!! Isn't your life more important!! Sorry so stern, but hope that you heed these people's warnings. Please take care - and I do hope you find out soon what is going on with your leg.

I just wanted to keep you updated. I see how much all of you care and I really appreciate that. I plan on calling the doctor on Thursday afternoon and hope to get in to see him on Friday. I did notice the other night more veins that are prominant in that leg that I didn't notice before and one night it looked a little swollen but I was on my feet a lot that day. I'm hoping it's an inflamation and not a blood clot. Thanks again for all your replies and support! I'll let you know what happens. Take care everyone!

To answer your question Dero, a typical spread to deeper veins would be when a clot may start as long and sinuous in a narrow vessel such as the lesser saphenous, then spread successively through the popiteal and femoral. Beyond that it gets more dangerous, which is a story for a different forum.

A typical bit of outdated doctor's advice was that a vessel such as the lesser saph, a calf vein located near the dermis, is "superficial" and clots there are not dangerous. Historical and clinical evidence proves otherwise.
Education efforts are showing progress with health professionals, including the bunch that sent me home untreated under the above scenario two years ago. They do things differently now. May the same progress be happening everywhere.

I went to the doctor today as promised. He sent me to the hospital for an ultrasound test. I don't have any results yet but the good news is they sent me home. I'm still awaiting what it is. If not DVT could it be Phlebitis or even a neck/back/disc problem? Time will tell and I'll let you all know. Thanks again for your support.

Again, I'm really happy you took the time to do this. I really do undertand having a job that requires so much of you that it seems like there is never a good time to get sick! But there will always be work to do, whether you're there 24/7 or not. I have to remind myself of that ALL THE TIME.

I got all my test results back and I do not have DVT. That was a scare and I appreciate all your support. I sure have learned a lot about this condition. I will now be going to physical therapy as it may be a neck/back problem. I'm hoping it's not a disc or nerve problem or worse and hoping I do not need any kind of surgery.
