Phyto Estrogen

Hi,


I had a massive PE in 2014. Have since full recovered. Cause was never found but was most likely birth control pills.


So now I can't use birth control, Mirena or other medicine that contains estrogen.



Totallly unrelated I'm looking to use a food supplement, all natural, that contains phyto-estrogens.  I had never heard of them but apparently they mimic in part what regular estrogen does in your body.


Of course the amount is very low, so I feel it most likely is harmless.



I've asked my doctor to find out if I can safely use these supplements. But maybe someone on this forum already knows?

There is a copper IUD that could be an option for you. I don't know anything about the phyto-estrogens. Best of luck!

My issue with supplements is that they're not really regulated so you don't actually know for sure what's in them, how much of a certain ingredient you're getting etc. It's all kind of general. You may want to ask a pharmacist for info on this. I found this article about women at risk for blood clots from hormones should not take phytoestrogen but I don't know scientific validity of this article.

I have the copper IUD. I love it. The only issue is that it does make my periods a heavier, but that can also be in part from my age and not being on hormones as well.

I've heard some conflicting info about phyto estrogens. Some people think they help support the bodies own sources, while others think they inhibit the bodies production and displace it will less active forms. Anyway back to something helpful, if you are looking to boost your intake of phytoestrogens, there are some good food sources flaxseeds (aka linseeds) soy (beans, tofu, milk, tempeh, edamame), sesame seeds, pistachios, legumes and some grains. There are even some in many fruits and vegetables. Looking at the list, I'm guessing why some companies promote their soy/linseed multigrain bread specifically to women!
