Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
If I've been stressed out, get a cold or really changed my diet etc. I will check more frequently. Anything that kind of makes a "bigger" change in your body I suggest going to check. It's not the end of the world and honestly I'm just glad to be alive :)
It took me maybe a year-2 years to get over my "why me" but now I'm like this is a part of who I am and it is made me a stronger person. You will do great!!
I finally was able to get something in writing from the docs office today with regard to Warfarin and food.
It didn't tell me anything new.
I couldn't believe it. Had I not questioned her, I'd be back up in the mid to high 3's. So, now I am going to be taking 2mgs every single day.
If there's one thing I learned from this, you must be your own advocate. We must not be afraid to challenge the doctor or the nurse if we think something is not right. They were going to make a grave error in that it has already taken nearly 2 months to get my INR to a good place and because they weren't looking at the right information, all that would have gone out the window.
I am so glad I questioned it.
I do try to be forgiving when they make mistakes, since we're all human, but it does really grate when you're given instructions that you know are wrong. I'm glad that the nurse was smart enough to double-check things and didn't just insist that she was right. (Some nurses will do that.) If you're working with people who will double-check if you push back, I feel like that is a good sign.
It is critical to always try to be your own advocate. I mean, there are definitely times when the stress of everything can make us want to just blindly follow, but when you're dealing with something long-term, it's better to be your own advocate if you possibly can. NO ONE cares as much about your health as you do.
And congrats on the in-range INR!
I think the nurse is new but that's no excuse for giving the doctor the wrong information. I met her today when I went in for the bloodwork and she was really nice. I actually think that the doctors are very stressed out these days with all the new rules and regulations. My doctor actually gives me an appointment for 1:10PM. Seriously? How can you possibly do that unless you throw your patients out of the office after only a few minutes.
Well, at least I didn't allow myself to fall through the cracks today.
Unlike what happened when I broke my arm last April and the orthopedic surgeon didn't show up for the appointment and I went two whole months without seeing him and wasted lots of time when I could have been doing more P/T. Too late now.
