Hi, I broke my ankle 7 weeks ago which has resulted in a DVT at the back of my knee. I've been prescribed apixaban tablets for 6 months but my calf and foot are slightly swollen and I get a throbbing occasionally in my calf. Just wondering if anyone can give me any advice, thankyou in advance.

I think that's pretty normal. Honestly, it just takes time to recover. If your doc has given you the ok to exercise (walk, ride bike, etc) I would try to do that. I would also elevate your leg when you have swelling.

The clot behind the knee would have 'down stream' impacts perhaps explaining the calf pain and swelling.

Are you doing anything other than the apixaban? I have a dvt below the knee and I'm taking aspirin, wearing grade 2 compressing stockings (both legs), keeping hydrated and cut back on activity. Also just had my 2 week follow up ultrasound. No idea what happens next! But the stockings are brilliant.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
