I took Asacol for a long time and never really noticed joint pain.
I was taking it for CD though if that matters. I have switched to Lyalda .

i took ASACOL and many moor crap, for over 25year , know i am staring to to get joint pain, or maybe is my age, i try not to take to much of if MED, mostly, i watch my diat , some tims i take hard pain killer, i do anythink to bring my UC under control. i am just wating for final moment.

I have never been on Asacol but I was on Lyalda for two weeks when the worst joint pain of my life hit me, I really thought I was going to die. My new GI think I should stay away from Mesalazine which is difficult because it is so many of the drugs that help UC. He put me on Sulfazine and it has made all the difference.

How long have you been taking Asacol?

I wa orginally on balsalazide for about 6 weeks but that gave me such stomach issues so I switched to Asacol. I have been on it for almost 4 months. Thanks.

I never had joint pain from this med, but I have really bad joint pain anyway as part of CD - the inflammation just gets everywhere :(

I have been on Asacol for approximately a year. I have never experienced the joint pain, but certainly the occasional occurrence of nausea and sometimes excess gas and bloating. I have discovered that these side effects are unpredictable, thus hard to anticipate

Buster I don't take anything for my CD/UC Dietary measures keeps flares under control - I do get joint pain from time to time - I'm sure it part of the disease after listening to the many DS contributors...
I have actually rubbed the bottom of my feet at night with vicks vapor rub and placed socks on them to not ruin my sheets and it has helped... I also have used Noxzema on my lower legs (my legs are what give me the most pain at times) when I used the Noxzema it gives me a good nights rest. I think the eucalyptus in it does wonders. Hope it helps someone out there!
I also found that my vitamin D was quite low so that has been bumped to taking 4000 units... That has helped a big deal too! So check your levels also and tell your doctor of joint pain... There are things that can be done. I know the more of a work out I give my legs through exercise they feel their best! Great day to everyone! xo!

I agree with the others, my GI doc says joint pain is part of the disease not a side effect from the meds. I have noticed that every part of my body ankles, knees, fingers, shoulder. Anything that bends has stiffness and seems to be getting worse with age. As if having UC or Crohns wasn't bad enough lol. Try to keep moving it helps with the stiffness although it's not always easy to exercise. I actually put my treadmill next to my bathroom. Now that I'm enjoying remission I can walk outside but I do have to force myself to get moving. Hope you feel better.
