Been having the same issues. It is really maddening when you forget the name of the city of where you were born, or your cell number, or even how to drive to a particular place in town. I am afraid to leave the house some days....

Interesting all these posts. I've been on Remicade for a little over a year and my memory sux lately. I thought it was cause i was getting older (just hit the big 50) I'll have to look into this, thanks everyone for your answers and thanks idevico09 for such a good question

i've been on remicade since july and i am also experiencing memory loss/fogginess. however, this started once i started my combination therapy with methotrexate. it seems the longer i go without methotrexate, the better my memory returns. my doctor told me the fogginess will fade away and that it was most likely due to my methotrexate use

When I first got on medicines I had so much trouble remembering things, and speaking!! I thought I was going crazy. Apparently there are some brain/colon relations that may have an effect, but also I think its just medicines, as soon as I got off prednisone my mind cleared up a ton.

Welcome to getting older...LOL. I'm 46 and have had that prb for years now! LOL
Seriously, if you have a low RBC that would explain it. I noticed you did not mention that but I just wanted to throw that out there. If the blood is not circulating the proper amount our minds do play tricks on us. Stress, as you said, can also play a big factor in memory. When we are stressed our minds tend to stay more focused on our problems more that trivial appointments or what time to take what med etc...

Hi Everyone!!! It's been a long time!!! Could you believe that I wrote this post 3 years ago and forgot I wrote it and found it in search LOL.... How has everyones memory doing? I still have a lot of problems with memory loss...I had a physical, blood work and CT scan and it all came out normal....My dr says the next step would to be going to a neurologist. How is everyone else doing?!?

Memory loss? If anything it comes from all the worthless poison they prescribe to fight Colitis with.

I agree that the medications have some bad side-effects, or can cause another disease even, but what choice do we have!? We're damned if we do, and we're damned if we don't. Talking negative all the time makes you depressed and anxious, which in turn makes your IBD worse! Posting comments like that isn't helpful.

Hi Idevico09, My memory is fine right now, but a few years ago I had a pulmonary embolism and shortly after that, I developed memory issues. But they improved over time. It was stress related. I think we underestimate the effect stress has on our mental and emotional health. Stress does cause mental fog and forgetfulness. Not saying that's the cause of all memory issues and certainly medications may play a role, but I think it's good to just step back and take a look at all that's going in in your life, your health, etc. My mom recently saw an neurologist for memory issues that came out of no where. All her tests came back normal Her neurologist suggested it is likely stress related. My mom had been through a lot in a short time span (breast cancer, loss of husband, loss of sister). So I think that all played an part in it.

And yeah, I agree with Levi. Not sure how helpful it is to be a big downer anytime someone mentions surgery or medication. We have an effing chronic disease. So options are limited sometimes. People need to do what they can and want to be well, whatever that is.

chronic fatigue is a memory impairment that most of us experience. I gradually experienced fewer and shorter breaks and then the fatigue became permanent. I went back to school 5 years ago after losing my job. I did well until the fatigue was so bad that it was shutting down my brain and impairing my eyesight. I couldn't handle work, school, and taking care of my wife, pets, and house. We are chronically ill and need to remember not to push too hard. I'm now a 24/7 caregiver and facing chronic sleep deprivation and unrelenting mega stress. Prednisone is a major sleep disruptor. I had to take it early to get any sleep.l

I honestly believe that anti-depressents effected my memory and perception. My docs and therapist say it is stress. I believe it is more than that and an effect of the meds.
