I tihnk going to therapy once a week instead of every other, or whenever the therapist deems herself available, is much more effective. When it comes to creating new habits and behaviors, there is a certain habitual stick to it that you really need.
With one friend, she's gotten so difficult that I've tightly compartmentalized her and set extensive boundaries. This is one step short of just dropping her entirely. I met herself another friend met for a walk this morning. She was not happy to see me apparently because I didn't give her what she wanted-to be driven on an extensive road trips and catered to, which she is not entitled to. She was barely interacting to or talking to me. I'm not sure if, or maybe she is aware, that the connection is practicallly over. To me, with her demanding and entitled attitude she's about just out the door. Even last night and this morning I was thinking about how I halfway didn't want to go- except that I like the activity, but there are other people who do these activities too...
Our friend, I noticed, took off quite early, and I wondered in part if this was the reason. Could very well be. The demanding and entitled lady started complaining right out of the gate about how hot it was and how she hates getting up early. Right after I was saying how amazing the weather was-at 70 degrees. After our friend left, she started in with: "I only did this kicking and screaming..." I abruptly waved goodbye and took off. Didn't even let her get the rest out of her mouth. Said goodbye and sped down the hill.

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...
Sounds like she is not happy about herself and rather than looking at that she blames everything (one) else.
That’s got to be a painful way to go through life. Maybe having more compassion will make it less stressful for you as well if you decide to continue doing things with her.
I know you can’t change her but everyone deserves a wake up call.
It’s great that you’re aware of these negatives and know to have some boundaries.
We have this strange woman in my book club. She told me all last winter she wasn't ever coming again because she really doesn't read. Then she shows up twice and gets another friend to harass me to put this lady back on the email list for attendees. Well I asked the strange lady did she want to be on the email list and got no answer. It was so crazy and I am not telling the whole story. I set boundaries within myself to not react to this strange lady nor her friend. I felt like the only mature one and they are older than me.
When they get weird, walk away. Just like you did. Good for you. I am proud of you and you should be proud of yourself also. You are learning we can't change other people just ourselves. Weekly counseling might just be better as it is consistent for you.
This friend you are talking about.... is that the one that has the cousin that calls you?
