I do stained glass as a hobby/therapy and have thought of teaching a community ed. class on it for some extra money. I do some cooking for the elderly, in a county program that pays, but I volenteer my time to that one. Great idea, good suggestions. Just do it!!

Great idea Dixe. I do crochet and after making a few dolls for the little ones for Christmas last year my daughters both said I should make some to sell at a craft fair next Christmas. I do alot of different kinds of crafty things. I also do scrapbooking and have taught classes before. Every winter there is what is called 'community school' which is 10 weeks one night a week at schools across the province where volunteers come in to teach adults a 2 hour class on whatever talent they have - everything from guitar lessons to cake decorating and everything in between. I've gone many years, sometimes to learn, sometimes to teach.

I think this a great Idea. I wish you lived near me. I have Always wanted to learn to sew. I am a big person and I can't always get dresses and stuff I like in my size. my mom used to sew. I wish I had someone to teach me. I can crochet but it hard because I am trying to learn how to read patterns. But some times I wish I could just see how someone does it visually. I think it is a great idea. Make sure you know who is coming on craigslist. if you do that way. I would just make sure you are save. I not trying to scare you. Just talk to the person before they come to a lesson. I think it is a great idea. I wish I could fly in also. we could have a group lesson. lol There are actually alot of people who would love to learn to sew. i know I would.

That's for the encouragement everyone! I did an add on craigslist. If that doesn't pan out I'll put one in the paper and see how that goes.

The govt agency for rehab tried to get a part time job for me working at home. Either they were scams or wanted a drug screen with no exceptions for pain...so they said they would help me start my own business. I wanted to be a personal shopper but need a wheelchair lift for the car. Then all the sudden they stopped and said they wanted another physical evaluation. Now are saying they have 'reservations' We are meeting on the 4th so I can find out what their problem is. But.....my husband made me a web page. vista print has great deals on business cards or you can make your own. Craigs list is a good place to advertise. Also there are sites like wordpress.com and linkedin...good ways to network. I intend to contact nursing homes, tell friends to pass the word, put flyers at senior centers...
I can do this. IF I can get a lift. I'm afraid it will all go up in smoke because of this lady.....this is my only chance for employment. I can't afford the lift myself. But if that isn't your problem I know you can do this. I don't have talents like you do or I would use them. You can do group classes maybe at the Y or library or senior centers. Charge per pupil. Sounds like you are on your way!

dixie, i don't recall if you're on SSDi, but i just remembered that they have a work program where you can develop your own. business. i haven't tried it, i had a client who did and remember filling out a bunch of paperwork for him. he wanted to be a pro photographer. i think they still have it.
one thing i keep saying i'll do when i get my printer hooked up is to put up flyers - most businesses will do it if it's related or will bring them business, even grocery stores where people stop to look for coupons...
