I could fly in, we could have our class and social hour...I could take you to dinner, take you home and get back into Nashville and fly home on SW and be home the next morning....maybe every other week.

Great thread! Seriously, I know I am off in la la land thinking of the days when I could just hop on a plane and head home or to Missouri. I haven't been on a plane since Mom died three years ago and it will be a while before I am again, I am sure. My back won't allow it right now.

dixie, i do calligraphy and advertised on CL and met a wedding planner. no business from her yet, but i do have a possible job from an old friend's daughter. another place is the local Y or high school mentoring groups.
i haven't knitted or crocheted in years, but my church has a group that meets every week to do it together. they donate, but the socialization would be nice.
there is also etsy.com where you can sell homemade items and the listing price is only 20c each, then a %of sale, but it's a fun place to get ideas also. you could sell you soap there.
i'm no expert, but i'd be glad to answer any questions about that.
i think it's great to share skills and get a little in return. good luck!!

Thanks serenityha! I have done Etsy, I like Artfire better because you can post as much as you want for a set low monthly fee. The problem with both sites is that the competition is so fierce.
Honestly, I can't keep up with the soap sells anymore. I was selling wholesale to someone local. It's a tremendous amt. of work. I would rather just do it as a hobby. Occasionally when I feel good....which is becoming more and more rare these days. I do still keep it listed, but only what I have on hand.

I love calligraphy! I use to do it but I don't think I was ever good enough to do something like you are. I use to be able to draw good and sold pics of people's pets to them to frame....but sadly I have let that talent slide:(

I'm working on making my porch an oasis with plants all around, cushy rocking chairs. When we get drowsy from the summer warmth we'll recline in our chairs and let the breeze lull us to sleep. We could chat all day and listen to the crickets serenade us at night:)

hello dixe4me, i am new here but i just got done reading your post and i wanted to tell you about a project me and a good friend do. On Facebook we have a page called Angel Blankets and it is a non-profit organization that makes blankets for the grieving parents of those suffering a lose of an unborn child. i lost a baby myself in the 6th month of pregnancy due to a car accident so i am personally involved as well.. my good friend crochets the blankets and donates them to the parents when requested.. if you are interested in making blankets you can leave a message on the board and my friend will then contact you. at this time she is the only one making these blankets and would love anyone interested... thanks ~stinke~

yes, i have thought a lot about this. the best offer i've come across was from a indie jewelery store. they wanted a class on wire crochet and they would procure the students. all i would have to do is provide a product sheet or a product fee and build my own structure and hours.

i just didn't get around to it.

another thing to look at is local yarn stores, build up a portfolio of sorts and let them know what you can offer. or- the craft council of america or something certifies craft instructors on line if you're looking to be all super cred.

otherwise, i think you can put up flyers anywhere and teach anywhere. be aware of the business laws in your state. some might require a DBA and some might not. some might want a sole prop. or other company listing for tax reasons while others may not regulate so much.

find out what your area requires and GO FOR IT!

Maybe you could start introducing yourself by offering yourself as a merit badge counselor for Girl Scouts and explain that you do private lessons on the side. The rec center that we have offers senior activities, you could offer intro classes for free with the option to sign up for regular classes. I think it would be a great way to get out and socialize plus make some extra income. Good luck. -RJ

I think that is a great idea and I bet you would be booked, I say go for it and if some men call for a appt be careful SHESH i Sound like your mom but you know what i mean have someone there not that they dont want to learn but I read to many true crime books not to be cautious for you.
