STOLEN MEDS...

i probably should not put this on the internet, god forbid something happens....

Labor Day weekend, i was suffering from a migraine, i spent 3 days in bed. i finally got outta bed to eat something on Monday.

My roommates son (24 y.o.), who, when I first moved in, she told me to: "hide your meds, he likes them" ,was visiting...I went upstairs, he was down stairs with his father on the computer.

Later that day, i looked at my Lortab bottle and what had been 2/3 full was now 1/3 full....of course I brought it to her (roomy) without saying it out loud and we figured out 24 were missing, which meant i was taking 5 a day!

Anyway, here is where it gets good. I am going outta town for 2 weeks. While i am gone I am going to leave a Soma and Lortab bottle out in my room. They will be filled with HERBAL TABLET remedies, one for sleep and one for colon cleansing.

So, when I get a call saying: My son is falling asleep while shitting...I will know who did what.

Can you tell i am not amused?

I think it is appalling that anyone would help themselves to another person's medications. The very idea that he would go into your personal items and rummage through them until he found your meds, obviously this boy has a problem!

We have a nine year old son and since he was old enough to understand, he was taught you do not put another person's pills in your mouth! Whether it be a vitamin, supplement or medication. But kids will be kids curious and all, and there are kids over here playing all the time so I personally keep my meds under lock and key. I too bought a small fireproof metal box/safe and I keep it tucked away in our room away from curious hands! I just feel it is better to be safe then sorry!

In all honesty I have never seen a topic get so many diversified responses, and responses at that. Being in Law enforcement I have seen alot of this. I am just watching to see the final outcome.

I forgot to add that I also have my family's meds locked because I have disabled children. I do however set up all our meds in weekly holders that are obviously not sitting on the coffee table with a sign saying, "No NO, don't steal me", but the kids' holders are put in a cookie jar on the kitchen counter and my holder with several narcotics and also strong psych meds is either next to my bed or next to my recliner, when i'm not on bedrest.

HAAAAAAA!!!my MD told me i had to call police if i wanted my meds replaced due to theft...you may have to get a lock box...that's a good one...just hope they don't do it back to you...god bless...i know about the migrains, i've tried everything, nothing works...they are from my chronic deg neck disease...they will last for about 10 days...have good accupunture/holistic md that medicare will pay for, but my workers comp will not...go figure...the lidocane injections work good too...everytime i go in, he says what are we doing today...everytime it's something new...keeping up with the travelling pain is a job and wears me out tremendously...god bless...protect yourself...

it really pisses me off when there is ALWAYS one poster suggesting that they know the legal ramifications of ones actions-seriously unless you are an attorney, dont suggest (in a matter-of-fact way) that something/someone is legal/legally resposible....get real krissy

personally, I think what started out as a lighthearted message got way out of control. The thought of being able to do that is funny, made me laugh. And, yes, on the otherside, I agree with what we are saying. I think sometime we just take things to serious. But, that is ok, it about discussions, hard to have on if everyone agreed.

Gosh,I only wish that I,too would have thought of that too,on the 3 diff. occasions my meds. came up missing!!My,then t/age daughter was still living @ home,& always had friends S/O,Etc.!!I would have gotten the BEST laugh!! What really SUCKS tho'-is that these morons have NO friggin' idea how MUCH we NEED our meds.!!!And,that we can't just go & get an "early fill"!!!God Bless U & your pain.XXX...

And ya know what...I hope they never have to know what it is like to need medication to make it thru a day nor how we have to count them out to ourselves every morning!

I dont think the guy is going to be coming back over anytime soon cuz his wife is having a baby today....they live in Alabama...

I have to hide them from my step-dad...and keep track of how many I have. It is horrible since I am still a teenager. I'm on some heavy duty painkillers at 16 (had cancer therefore extreme tolerance to any pain meds, plus I have a form of muscular dystrophy which itself is a living hell). My mom flat out said "hide your pills, and count them". I think I have older pills under my bed somewhere...but more recent ones are hidden in plain sight. It is terrible to have to HIDE you medications...it is ridiculous. Especially from your own family and/or close friends.

Yes....I think you should have reported it to the police soon as it happened....everyone knows it was not right of him to take your meds....however what did tricking him with laxatives do for you? Did it make you feel good thinking of him sitting on the toilet? were you really justified by doing this? I'm sure this kid has a severe problem of which few people understand....i am almost sure he is suffering enough on his own....but if you wanted to add to his suffering then i guess that's your business, but in my opinion it makes you no better than him. Someone should confront him face to face and maybe do an intervention....you mentioned that it is your roomates son....maybee she should try and help him get the help he needs.Of course you are free to handle things any way you want to and of COURSE he was wrong, but sometimes a little compassion goes a long way.Most people will never have a drug addiction but for those of us who do it is a living hell.

I have kept biting my tongue day after day everytime one or two of the responders gets on their high horse and chastises nemcgrath for the way she handled "her situation". There are several known ways that people who take narcotics are black-marked. That is they are watched now for possible addictions. One of those is to report stolen medications. This is from one of the Doctors who was put in prison and later exonerated who now works with the American Pain Foundation. So to tell her to call the police isn't the smartest move unless it's an ongoing problem. For someone to say if you've been "ripped off, it's your own fault", it's the same as saying you deserve to be victimized for any reason. I deserved it, because it was my husband??? All the while, he kept telling me I was taking too much and didn't know it. Making me believe it - my fault?? Yes, now soon to be ex.
