Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
I know you cannot tell your doc your meds were stolen without a police report proving it...so moot point...and more important i still need a place to live, which he knows.
what a world we live in where we have to lock up, hide, count and covet our medication.
I sure will let all of yas know how it goes. i will count them before I leave and make sure i know how many are gone when i return.
TEE....HEEE....yup, dont piss me off.
I have to be a hard case here, but the reason this person stole from you is your own fault. When you started taking narcotics, I am sure you sign a paper from your doctor, taking responsibility for these medications. And not to doctor shop, report all medications you are taking to all doctors you see, not reporting them stolen unless you file a police report, AND taking care to keep them safe and out of the reach of children and potential thief's.
I am very surprised at anyone who is taking narcotics and is keeping them in the same way you would keep Tylenol or Advil.
If you get ripped off its your own fault.
No one should know you business except perhaps your sig. other. If you advertise what you take, you are asking to be robbed.
Especially if you have some in your purse. How did the person know who to rob?
I have been taking very strong narcotics for the past 14 years, and have NEVER been robbed.
I currently take MS Contin (morphine) and MSIR, have used Duragesic, Methadone, Actiq, Fentora, etc in the past.
I have ALWAYS kept them in a LOCKED metal box HIDDEN in my private bedroom.
I raised a daughter since I became disabled and she has thrown many parties in our home.
But no one knew MY business, except my daughter. And she was taught to NOT share our private matters.
I think you are at fault also since you should have spoke to the police IMEDIATELY after you discovered they were stolen. Move, if you are in a unsafe place. There are people who would be able to help you relocate.
I wish you luck but please act responsible.
Anyway, got the herbals yesterday and they look nothing like our junk. Besides that they SMELL to high heaven...YUCK. Ever smell Valerian? Stinky feet.
I am going to get a lock on my door. We are 3 old hippies living here by the code of hippy-dom: I will share if I can!
And for the record, I never signed a contract like that at my PM.
I'm just tickled with this idea. If someone stole my meds I'd do the same to them. Great minds think alike!!!

when my loving brother (also my next of kin since my husband worked 4 hours away and therefore the person who would be contacted in an emergency) who used much stronger pain meds than i did came to visit, i never dreamed he would steal my pain meds. no one else ever had. something like this was unheard of in my family,so why would we think a trusted family member would ever do such a thing? as far as signing a 'contract', i just saw my very first one at the most recent pain management dr. i went to last week, yet he won't be handling my general pain care.. this was only a one-time visit to determine whether or not i could safely postpone surgery. my regular neurologist who handles my migraine treatment has never once asked me to sign such a contract. i've never had to sign a piece of paper about using 'narcotics' responsibly and had been put on these meds back in 1985 post major back surgery: percocet and codeine. they treated me as the adult i was; these thefts occurred during the time period from probably 1986 through 1989 when he got too brazen and it became obvious. personally, i am appalled by your hard-line attitude towards victims and not towards 'potential thieves'.
I sure do agree with others who think if an adult is going to steal someone else's pain meds, then they could certainly do a whole lot worse than spending a couple of hours contemplating their sins on the toilet. I wonder..would you also blame the victims for being responsible for other crimes committed against them?
I also agreed to take responsibility for the medications I was given which included keeping them out of the reach of children or anyone who may mistakenly take them, thinking they were something else.
I also agreed to keep the medications in a safe place, ie: A LOCKED box, cabinet, etc. Where I or a trustworthy other, would have the only key.
Would the person who got robbed be any less guilty if the person who stole her medication, took too much and overdosed and dies? No, they would be just as guilty. This is why we promise to lock these medication up in the first place. Just ONE the 1600 mg Actiq pops I used would KILL any person who did not have the narcotic tolerance I have.
So, would I retaliate by leaving substitutes of some other medications? No, this sounds like a immature game to me.
She should have immediately reported this to the police. Then get a locked box or something to lock up her medications.
My whole point was "two wrongs do NOT make a right".
Anyone can have their own opinion, but legally she is responsible, and morally she has to also assume responsibility for her actions.
