gabapentin and lyrica

Hello to everybody and happy Easter to those that practice, but my question today is that i am confused, friday i went to my doctor and expressed my displeasure of the lyrica not helping me and asked of something else to take. i mentioned gabapentin and he said ok take gaba with the lyrica so now on my second day i am on lyrica 100 mg 2 times a day and gabapentin 300mg 3 times a day, woa i don't feel very well today, immediately last night had problems with my vision, but not bad nauseous all day but today a hour after taking all my meds i feel weird i am having trouble typing , oh yea i have diabetic neuropathy pain in my legs all day, so i took my januvia for sugar control lisinopril for blood pressure folic acid , and i feel really bad

Not sure why he is using those two together when they are almost the same drug.

I have not been on 'Lyrica" but on the other one I never felt so stoned in all my life.

lladyfair you get stoned from gabbapentin wow i wish i could get a good feeling from any of the meds i am taking, i dont even like the oxy i dont understand what all the junkies like about it

I am taking gabapentin 300mg once a day. I increased it, and the side effects were as described. I stopped the increase, and added more liquid to stay hydrated.

Mild dehydration will cause the legs to feel more sensitivity to changes, thus adding to the pain.

I would keep a journal to help you find the best way to stay hydrated, be able to move around, and feel better. The tiredness seems to lessen the more I move around.

mideyebrow thanks for your input, yes i agree keeping active is a plus, for the effects of the meds, and keeping the circulation in my legs pumping, it improved the feeling in my feet a lot. but my calfs really take a beating if i over do it. my calfs are where i get most of my pain, it never stops. when its at its worse the pain will also be in my knees. like all i do is watch TV and i must see 50 lyrica commercials a day, and everyone speaks of the foot pain, i dont have foot pain,????? and yes on the dehydration i drink a lot of water anyway, but i have experienced dry mouth since i started the gabba. good luck to you feel good, Mark

well my doctor does want me to continue with the lyrica and the gabapentin together. he says instead of 3 gabba a day take 2 at night. i will try for this month but if i dont start seeing some benefits after this month i am gonna stop the lyrica that will be 5 months i think that should be enough time, any input out there. thanks Mark

The doc should have warned you that it wouldn't help until you have been taking it for six months or longer.

My co-pay was $60 for lyrica. That's a lot of $$ to pay for six months worth of a drug that's not helping.

Mark, ask your doc about Tegretol and Elavil. They both make the brain percieve pain a bit less. And they both come in generic.

These have helped to take the edge off, which was really a big help for me. Going from a level 9 to a level 7 or 8 doesn't seem like much, but I'll take all the help I can get.

Enter SCS. Ahhhhhh. I'm one of the lucky ones that have benefitted from it.

Please call your doctor ASAP and ask him to take you off all of those medications. He needs to try one med at a time, not add more on top of what you are already taking. Gabapentin is suppose to work fairly well but I have my doubts about the Lyrica. That is only my opinion however. I hope you can find something that works. Hugs GB

Woa what a night, my doc yesterday told me to take my 2 100 mg lyrica and take 2 gabapentin at night, by 10 pm i was bouncing off the walls wow that stuff really messed me up, i haven't been that stoned in a long time, good thing i was home.

oh no the new med combo isn't working, I'd call the doctor straight away and explain this isn't working. I don't know what options you have as I can't even get anyone in my area to address my pain once I say no to Lyrica and gaba ...I've been told even I most not be in enough pain to decline those two meds.

have you checked all your labs, I mean almost everything vitamin wise? I was low in iron, D was super low ..ect I got a few scripts written that's how low it was at one point it does seem to help and the folic acid I just take prenatal as it has a good mix in there but i don't know if that would be okay with a guy ..but with the vitamins, benydrl and antivan helps and baclofen for stiff neck

yes all my blood work is done every 6 months and shows no deficiencies, i feel so hung over from last night,but my legs any way leg wise i'm having what i would call good day,but i am so hung over i cant do anything but fight sleep

Mark, if it's helping your legs, I suggest you keep taking it. After a while your body will adjust to it and hopefully the side affects will taper off. Maybe it's the gaba that's helping. Ask your doc if you can slowly come off the lyrica and just take the gaba to see if it works by itself. Stress to the doc that you can't afford the high cost of lyrica. I did that and my doc said no problem. Once they know you can't pay for lyrica AND the house payment too, they're usually agreeable.
