Yep! Broken ankle. I'm begging the PA to give me a cast that I can put a little weight on for my sale.

The lawyer says the hearing isn't until May.

At least I can go "home" tonight. Will enjoy being in bed.

Omg, I'm so sorry you are going through this all at once. Is there any way to pro-rate the rent on your current apt. so you can overlap your move? Maybe check with the Dept. of Human Services to get some ideas or an advocate to help you, or help you with temporary housing. You are going to need a place to recuperate for a couple of weeks after taking that fall, especially with a broken ankle.

I'm so sorry you're going through this right now. I am going through the same thing but I am living with family who are taking care of me. You are not going to go onto the street. I'm going to live in your apartment rent free for up to six months - then you can pay your landlord back after you get your early retirement. If you file for bankruptcy, you can't be evicted from your apartment, and they cannot shut your utilities off during the winter time. I don't know what the rental laws are like in your state, but here in California, if you are bankrupt, they have to let you remain in your apartment for six months. You need to contact an attorney and see what they can do to help you so that you don't end up on the streets. I hope things work out for you and that you feel better soon. Hugs!

I meant to say I'm going to tell you how to live in your apartment rent free -sorry for the schizophrenic typing. Also, if you are evicted and go to court, ask for a jury trial and it will take much longer for your landlord to get you out of the apartment. I was wrong about the six month time period, it is a three month time period where the bankruptcy court grants you a stay that overrides the eviction. Most landlords simply wait the three months to get you out of the apartment. You need to look into this. You are fighting for your survival right now. You need to use every tactic you can to get you through till you can file for your early retirement. Then you need to continue to appeal and fight your disability case - because your disability pay out is going to be a lot higher than your early retirement pay out. I hope this helps you some. Hugs.

Oh, dear... I am so very sorry to hear this. Are there any social services agencies that you could turn to for assistance? Any friends or relatives who could take you in for a few months? I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Ann, boy when it rains it pours. I am so very sorry you are going through all of this. Do you belong to a church? Often they have funds to help paritioners out. 16yrs is a long time to live in an Apt. Have you tried talking to your landlord and explained your situation? If you've always pain your rent on time and have been a good tenent which I'm sure you have, your landlord may very well work with you. They hate losing people like you... It's worth a shot. I too would suggest that you check with your local social service agency, many of these agencies have emergency funding. Is it possible to take in a temporary roommate or sublet it until Feb? Just an idea, I wish I had a magic solution for you.

I just finished with a broken ankle. I had to wait 24/48hrs before they put an air cast on as they needed to make sure the swelling had stabilized. After a week or so I was able to slowly get around using my Walker. I'm sending up prayers for healing, answers/solutions and diminished pain. Please keep us posted on how your doing.

Perhaps you will get temp disability with your NOW current injuries?
Some places have shelters specifically for women? No friends or family you could move in with?

Ann have you tried the Salvation Army or the United Way? They have access to emergency funding or contact with agencies that do. You said you are trying to sell your apartment? You own it? Who is holding the mortgage a bank or private owner. Perhaps you can ask for some leeway in making your payment. I truly wish you luck and am sorry you are in so much pain.

I've been able to have my sale OK. With the walking cast, I've been getting around all rights. Strangely, my back hurts more than my ankle. I took a bath last night and looked at my ankle, and said, Oh, yeah, that is a broken ankle.

Friends and even strangers have been helping me organize the sale. So, I'm hanging in.

Ann I am sorry I completely blew that one. I misunderstood what you said and thought you were selling your apartment. Can I blame it on being blonde?

Ann, I am so so sorry for everything you're going through. I thought you had appealed your denial to the ALJ hearing level. SSA doesn't have temporary disability. But most states do have cash assistance for those who meet the state criteria for disability. Although there are also income and resource limits because this is a form of welfare. If you are eligible for Section 8, there is a chance you may also be eligible for cash assistance. Usually the states criteria is not as strict as SSA's criteria. You would also receive Medicaid.
