Are you having any other symptoms? Is there a possibility that you might have the flu bug? I have personally been on pain meds (MS Contin, Vicodin, Oxycodone, etc...) and they have always caused constipation for me. If the diarrhea persists, I would definitely go to the doctor. I am sure other people here will weigh in with additional info. that will be useful.

Like you said, it could have been something that you ate, meaning it is only a temporary situation. (crossing fingers)

I could be wrong but i would be doutfull that pain meds could cause this.

As pain meds cause ur bodys to move so much slower and to get very conspated i mean very.

Even when use to that type heat for periods of time it can make u sick. Have u invegtated the apartment for stuff could be makeing u sick?
Stress could be causeing u it.
Drinking actaul to much if ur trying keep hydrated with the heat. If drinking to much fluids could cause it.

Numbers of things can cause it.
Any other sytomps?
If not frequent i would not be to concerd if not other sytomps.
as if going normal amonts but lose stools it not huge alarm.

plus with moving are u eating regular? I sujust get some fiber and try it. might help

Thank you for the replies. I think that moving, especially in this hot weather, is the main culprit for the diarrhea. We haven't had a normal family dinner in the last few weeks. We're ordering out a lot because by the time we get home, we are too tired to cook. I think the idea of adding fiber to my diet is important. Plus I need to watch how much I drink so I'm not overhydrating myself. I have Sjogrens, so my mouth is always dry and I have something to drink next to me all the time.
Thanks for the ideas. It seems so stupid to think it's the pain meds, but they are the only thing new in my life. Of course they cause constipation. I'm a nurse and I kick my self for thinking the narcotics are causing the diarrhea.

Ordering in all time might getting and probly buging gi sytem most.

Just. Make sure find even balance in fluids as don't want dehydration eather.

Diet change sounds like probly biggest issue finally hitting ur body hard. Tiber will help a lot. Fluids on u all time actaul good. I keep fluids on me all time

Their are probly few have opsie efects in gi sytem could never heard of it myself but don't mean opiates cant.
So don't feel silly asking.

I actaul make lots nurse mad as I am more edcauated in my health issues as I ask Dr a lot questions.
nurses get introuble as my Dr tells them lisent to me fully as my health can go bad quick. My case is not normal so they try ignore me.

Has the manufacturee changed recently? That can cause GI issues.

Too much fluid is dangerous as well - as you already know.
I get the runs when the pain meds have gluten in them. The other thing that is possible is lactose in the fillers and binders. A lot of people get thr runs from too much of lactose.

If you raise your pain medications then constipation occurs, if you lower your pain meds, the opposite of constipation occurs.

Hi. don't worry about the subject matter, it is part of who we are and what we deal with.

I have read everyones' response on here... there are some good thoughts.

HOWEVER... Pain medication CAN absolutely cause Diarrhea.

If you are taking pain medication and are having infrequent; tough; cement like; sticky or difficult bowel movements (which most of us deal with) it can cause a blockage higher up in the bowel.

This blockage may be small enough to not be causing extraordinary problems but, large enough that the "fresher" stool is having a difficulty passing.

The newer stool becomes more liquified in order to pass around the blockage. There are a number of body processes that cause this but, that is what happens.

While you are keeping in mind the other sugesstions, please be highly aware of a blockage.

Thanks,Superduck, for your post. I hadn't thought of the situation, although I had many patients in the past who had intestinal blockages with diarrhea. Thankfully, my diarrhea seems to have subsided, so it must have been the combination of the heat and some dehydration and the stress of moving. But I will keep this in mind for the future.

I appreciate everyones responses. You all gave me a lot of ideas that I must be more mindful of my digestion now that I'm on more heavy duty pain meds.

aren't you on nucynta?

that one causes diarrhea in some cases because of the norepinephrine re-uptake inhibiting qualities of the drug. my father had the craps, absolutely no sleep and other disturbances on it... i had to research it to death to figure it out.

Yes, I'm on NuCynta and come to think of it, my diarrhea/loose stools started after I began taking it. Hmmmm.....add that to the migraines I'm getting and I think I need a change in medication!

not many are tolerating this drug. it can be helpful to some especially with nerve pain in the mix since the norepinephrine helps. in cymbalta both seritonin and norepinephrine are increased. for some they are similar and work well. nucyenta is a hyped up tramodol. a synthetic opiate with "unknown" mechanisms of action." (according to the people who make it..) with nerve pain or depression you might get a trial on this drug for your doctor's eval, mostly. the word from pharma employees and humans undergoing the post market guinea-pigging on this med are not positive in either court. i don't expect the drug to go long without major lawsuits since most patients are not told and do not understand the tech language enough to understand that they are not just taking a weak partial agonist with a short ceiling, but also an snri medication that they may not have signed up for. basically, a crappy narc plus anti-depressant. thanks a lot *%#@!, has been the typical reaction.

i cannot take drugs that raise norepinephrine because it lands me in the heart hospital er rooms. i cannot tolerate more norep than i have. i can only handle mild seratonin increases as well. the g-pigged me for most of highschool and beyond. i have lasting brain changes and sensitivities that follow premature exposure and heavy dosing of anti-d's which makes me really hard to treat.

i'll bet you a doughnut that it's the nucyenta, newsuckta... whatever it is. it is not a natural or full agonist synthetic. it relies on it's anti-depressant qualities to make the big difference. the short term effects are speeding thoughts, sleeplessness, severe dizziness (like wellbutrin for the first few days) cognitive problems, delerium, confusion, the runs and wayyyyyyyyy more.

wiki it, and please get off of it. i'm sorry. i'm a picky med consumer, after all i've spent the better part of my life on what some people might call "the fun drugs."

seriously. if you taper and get off of it and onto something else and the crapping stops... you owe me a doughnut!!

Wow! Thanks Jen for the education on NuCynta. It explains both the diarrhea and headaches. I thought I was going crazy. Will stop it as soon as I talk to my PM doc.
It's ashame because it, in combo with OxyContin, has really helped my pain. Why can't they find a drug that helps without all the side effects??????

they keep trying, if you react well to oxycodone you might react well to other thebain synthetics. zohydro, not sure if it's on the market yet, is going to be a long acting form of hydrocodone. it's already under fire by addiction extremists, but may provide relief for people who are more receptive to the paramorphine molecule than the morphine molecule in natural or synthetic opiods. in long acting oxycodone before the current delivery system changes, the thebain molecule was responsible for the "rush" that abusers were looking for.

all i know is that morphine and i go well together without any sort of high. when i was on norco 10's 8-10/day (24 hours) i was wonky every dose. when i was prescribed norco 10's a couple of weeks ago to get me through a 5 day scheduling delay, they might has well have been sugar cubes.

i think a long acting hydrocodone formulation could help a lot of people with cp. why try to stop something with well proven potential from helping people? oh yeah... i know why.

you might do better with a short term synthetic such as dilaudid (hydromorphone) added to the oxy er. i'm sorry that the nuycnta is so horrible with side effects, the breathing complications alone should have stopped the drug from making it to market. i was so upset with my 76 year old father's reaction to it, then when i read about it i was shocked that they would put a man with asthma and sleep apnea on something that made him feel like he "could not open his mouth enough to breathe well."

i hope you get a better med asap, sandy. sorry for all the drivel. i'm not a doctor, but i play my own in real life.
