So I"m going to get this off my chest....
I realize there are folks on this Site who don't have good Dr.'s, and the empathy I feel for these folks are as real as it gets. I hate that not everyone who needs a great Dr. to help them through these difficult diagnosises, has one.
Unfortunately when a person has a bad Dr. and chooses to post about it here, it generally turns into a negative rant about all Dr.'s/Nurses/Clinics/Hospitals, the whole medical community.
After finishing re-newing my Healthcare.gov Insurance I noticed that my main Dr. wasn't covered anymore. I didn't panic, I just made a note to ask her about it today when I was there for my monthly appt. I asked her, and got the answer I expedted, they'er too small of a practice to afford the BCBS premiums. What she did next, is 50% of why I love her so much and why I've been her patient for 17 years. She said, "So now we have to get your ducks in a row before the end of the month and your policy changes. Help me think of any and all blood labs you need and we'll do them today. What about your liver/kidney Ultrasounds, is it time for them? I said, they're do in January. She said, "we'll do them this month so their paid for easily. Then she pulled up med list on her Computer and said, "Okay lets order any meds that we can get 3 months supply for. Because she knows my meds have been free since August. The last thing she did as I was checking out of the office, was to come up to the counter and tell her nurse to have me come in on the 30th of Dec. instead of my normal Jan. 5 date, so I could save some money and use my $5 copay 1 more time.
She automatically went into, "Help the patient as much as humanly possible" mode. I didn't have to ask or bargain or beg. And then we went over how I'll be paying them a cash price startig January and what I could afford for a cash price, so we settled at $50/month.
My point here is very simple...there are bad Dr.'s in the world...but there are also so many great Dr.'s out there, ones who do whatever they can for their patients. Ones who go the extra mile every day of the week, for their patients.
As someone who used to work in the Medical field,it can be very difficult to listen to the "all Dr.'s are eveil" or 'all hospitals are just out ot get money and treat you badly" Utilizing Support Boards like this one offers advantages, but you know you'll have to put up with a lot of Dr. bashing all the time. And sometimes it can be hard to listen to it without the other side, the positive side. There are many good Dr.'s out there, I've worked with quite a few, I've been treated by many and I have a great team of them currently.
So that's it, just wanted to get that out of my head and off my mind.

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmon

It's the most irritating thing to hear- oh I only pay $2 and see 87 specialists a month!- when you can't get access to the simplest services.
It does anger and offend and also shuts people down who need to express their own issues.
US medicine is crap.
We all know it.
Say it ain't so means nothing unless you are wealthy enough to circumvent the nonsense most of us are having to go through.
It's hard enough trying to deal with finding health care without being attacked online for not being peppy enough.
Maybe you should publish a list of your drs- I'd travel to see good drs.
I tell my kids all the time, that the biggest risk to dangerous behaviors (drinking and driving, any injury, diabetes, etc) isn't death, but being injured and living with permanent pain or disability.
It's a lot easier to let that obnoxious driver pass, than it is to deal with insurance, doctors, bankruptcy and lawyers.

But my eye doc had a man come in just before me who needed cataract surgery but was going to lose our mutual doc on Jan 1st. So this doc got everything set up, including finding him a place top do his physical and set up surgery for late next next week. He'll be through all his post-op app.ts before Jan 1st. I thought....how nice of him.
Yeah, there are good and even great docs and therapists(psychotherapists and physical therapists) out there. Have a bad one, change docs if and when you can.

that option isn't open to people with insurance which has ' narrow networks '.
You have to see who is available who takes your insurance and you have no choices unless you ail pay cash.
My Pcp was the 6th Dr I was sent to. The others were listed as taking the insurance but one was a paediatrician the others weren't taking patients.
I know you have a hard life, I know you're mad at the world....I get it.
But, in years and years of being on Support Sites and even putting patients on them and routing Suicidal folks through them....I've never met someone like you who thinks you "speak" for everyone all the time.
"U.S. Medicine is Crap, WE all know it" ummmm......No! I'm sure there are many here who don't know it. I know I have a child who would have been dead 10 times over if not for the U.S. medicine that figured out why his kidneys decided they didn't need to regulate his Blood Pressure anymore at the ripe old age of 11, or why he was born without an active immune system.... I know my ex-husband would have been dead were it not for the level 1 Trauma center at Herman Hospital in The Med Ctr. in Houston....and I know I probably would not have survived a few of the 30 surgeries that I've had in the last 20 or so years.
If you think U.S. medicine is so bad, its a free country, heck Canada and Mexico aren't that far away, maybe they could help you out.....but you might check with a few people from non-U.S. countries and listen to what it takes for them to see a Dr. or get Psychiatric treatment or how long a waiting list is to get an operation in a hospital...and that's not 3rd world...that's Canada, Australia, Europe.
The U.S. is not perfect in their administration of socialized healthcare, and the Insurance Companies could definitely improve 100's of percent.
But just because you have a bad experience with a Dr., here and there, it doesn't mean that the whole U.S. medical field is crap and everyone needs to warned about them.....that is so ridiculous.
I've had bad Dr.s just like everyone else, but that doesn't mean that all the good Dr.'s I've had get lumped into a bucket of "the medical field has gone to crap and there's is no good healthcare left!" When you have a Dr. that you can't work with, that you don't think you can foster a relationship of trust with, then you do the usual SOP...you find a different Dr. Because you can't work with a Dr. that you don't like or don't trust....and yes, there is always a way to find a different Dr., nobody in the US of A is handcuffed to 1 Dr. and 1 Dr. only with no other choice...
For the record, nobody was attacked in my post. Being "peppy" was never mentioned in my post, I guarantee you that because I do not do "peppy". I don't pay $2 to see 87 specialists. Oh yeah, and I'm not wealthy.
There are those of us who also get annoyed when having to read all the "every Dr. in the word is crap" posts. We each have our own opinion. I posted my opinion about my Dr.s because they are good Dr.'s. and they deserved to be acknowledged for that.
I'd be perfectly happy to PM you a list of my Docs, you come up to UNC Chapel Hill and Duke and you'll find some of the best cutting edge Docs in the world, NC is a very friendly State, we'd welcome you.
I haven't been on this forum as long as many others, but I thought your post was awesome and I'm very very happy that you are one of those who have a great doctor who truly is looking out for you. I would be happy for anyone and everyone who had that kind of a doctor.

My hospital is in the news every couple of months and crucified in the local papers as soon as any info hits the page.
80% of the report is not even close to the truth. My hands are tied because I am sworn to secrecy and talking to anyone in the media would get me fired. I can't even post anything with a fake profile in response to these articles.
They hand pick what they want to write. No one ever writes about Doctors working without lunches and breaks 12-16 hour shifts. No one has ever wrote about how a team of doctors came in on their day off ( Saturday) to open the interventional procedure room ( which btw also needs support staff to clean in, etc ) to perform and invasive task on a dying cancer patient who couldn't do it during the week due to anxiety.
Nobody ever writes about how much abuse the staff has to take from patients with severe Military PTSD. One of our staff members got stabbed in the face with a pen and she didn't press charges because she felt mercy for this patient.
There is a lot that people don't see. We don't get paid enough for all the crap we have to face every day.
That's exactly why I sing the praises of my medical team so high. Everyone hears about all the bad dr.'s, the evil technicials who didn't "handle" you gently enough, the nurses who "didn't do it right", the hospitals that are just awful.
Nobody every talks about the Dr.'s who are great and go the extra mile to do whatever it takes to treat their patients. The great Techs and nurses, the awesome hospitals...and it drives me crazy!
I have a lot of experience in this....I've had 30 operations in the last 17 years, 10 of which were full multiple day admits, I've had 5 psych admits, so many procedures I can't even remember the number, I'm in the ER 2 x a month at least.....I deal with the medical profession A LOT.
They're not all perfect and I've gotten bad ones...the difference is, when a tech is a jerk, or a nurse does something wrong, I call them on it right then and there....I don't go home and stew about it.
I know that there are a helluva lot of great people in the Medical Field out there, that never get the recognition they deserve.....but the bad one's sure get a lot of attention.
It's wrong.
