Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...

It's amazing to me how little people actually understand about chronic pain.... I watched my mom exist it utter agony for more than a decade, and nothing helped. If something worked to just make things a fraction of fraction better, eventually it wouldn't work anymore. And the only medication that had ever alleviated her pain, her doctor stopped prescribing because the FDA reclassified it and they didn't want to file the extra paperwork with the DEA. I watched my mom dying on the inside, so frustrated that she couldn't make herself better and she couldn't escape the pain. There is nothing like watching the person you love suffer. But no one really understands-- although I would imagine many of you, reading this completely understand what she was feeling. I tried going to a suicide support group, but it's just not the same. Suicide is a horrible loss, and living without my mom is an agony beyond description, but while I'm struggling every day without her, I have to admit that I'm glad she is no longer in pain. Please know that I'm not suggesting that this is the right choice for anyone, but I understand the choice that my mom made. And I'm tired of either having to pretend like I'm completely ok, or listening to people tell me that it's ok to be mad. She fought like hell through a medical system that is utterly incompetent when it comes to chronic pain. I will never be mad at her for finally giving up once she knew that there were no more medical miracles, or any other kind of miracles to try... So I hope you don't mind my reaching out. I just hoping to find some people who understand what she was going through and how that shapes my grief. And for anyone reading this or in this forum, I'm so sorry that you're dealing with his excruciating plague. I wish more people understand what chronic pain looks like and that our medical system needs to do more research and provide extremely improved services for patients. I can't tell you how many times I had to fight with her doctor's offices and drive across town to sketchy pharmacies trying to get her medications filled. It's unreal what many of you are forced to deal with and I'm so sorry for that. Anyway, I guess I'm just looking for camaraderie...

So mad at Xfinity! They're trying to charge me $115 per month for the same service I had been paying $50 the last four years. I took the equipment to UPS for shipping and cancelled my subscription today! Next door was a cookie shop called Crumbl. I had heard of it before but never went in until today. I don't need one more sugar fix, but maybe it will help with my sad) grieving heart....$15...

I know this is stupid, but after not being able to find a job after graduation for almost two years, I ended up just taking an online teaching job because I couldn't find anything in my field. I was trying to get out of teaching and I feel so devastated. I felt this crushing feeling when I signed the paperwork and when I was in the meetings. I know that sounds so dramatic but it is how I felt. It...

Welcome to our group. I hope you are able to find the camaraderie and support you need right now. I know you'll be able to see what we deal with on a daily basis...especially those of us who are young and for whom the medical profession wants to "write off."

So sorry for your loss.
US has the worst doctors and healthcare of the developed world according to WHO but no one seems to care.
Obama's 'reforms' just seem to have allowed even more profiteering and corruption.
I'd love to see politicians held accountable for these ruined lives but I doubt we will- the people in charge just seem to think it's fine to treat people like this...
I'm so sorry for your loss. It's harder to grieve when a loved one completes suicide. The guilt can be unbearable. I have had 2 friends that killed themselves. One struggled with chronic pain for years. I still miss her but I have always understood why she did it. I am a suicide survivor. At this point I've been dealing with chronic pain for 6 months. I have several diseases; my body is shutting down. One doctor gave me half the therapeutic dosage of methotrexate for any disease for 5 months and I have gotten progressively worse. I started with a swollen knee and an occasional limp and now after months of heavy duty medications I can barely walk.
I understand when people want the pain to stop. It doesn't necessarily help the people left behind.
My mom's told me since I was a kid I'm the only reason she didn't kill herself. Pretty big responsibility for a little kid.
I'm rambling, feel free to message me. I don't think there are words that help with death.
Sometimes it helps to vent.
Hugs,

With chronic pain I feel your mother was cheated by the doctors and our medical system. They did not do enough to control your mom's pain. I am sorry, I will keep you and your mom close in my prayers. She is out of pain, that is a relief. Now you have to find a way to move forward, one day at a time. It is hard but doable.
I am glad you came here to vent, I love this DS family, there is a lot of support here. I do understand, I have helped family members with Chronic Pain and various conditions, and I also have Chronic Pain, so I have seen from both sides. Fighting each day to find that rope to hang on to becomes very exhausting. Stay strong. Sending you all the extra energy I can spare.
Warm comforting hugs-RJ
Having witnessed her pain..
I hope you find comfort that there is no more for her.
As a mother of adult children..
I must say, I understand that struggle.
No mother wants to put their child through that horrible loss..
But, pain can take us where we wouldn't go.
I'm sorry our horrid medical system failed you both so griviously.
Hugs

Even with medication it can become difficult to want to press forward. I can't get my mind wrapped around the fact that in order to live a semi-normal life, I have to be attached to a pill bottle. I hate being dependent on the medical industry for my existence. I have battling thoughts of suicide lately. I don't know if I can deal with another 4 years of playing the pain management game. I'm scared to get hooked on the meds, I'm scared my doctor will retire, leave the practice, or decide to drop me as a patient. I'm scared the pain will get worse, I'm scared the meds will eventually stop working, I'm scared all of the time.
Any how, I am keeping you and your mom close to my heart, and close to my prayers. Please share your mothers story with as many doctors, congressmen, and local, state, and federal representatives as you possibly can. They need to listen to us pain patients. I hope you're feeing better when you read this. This group welcomes you with open arms. We are always here for you if you ever need to vent, or someone to talk to. Hugs!
