Chronic Pain Support Group
Physicians and professionalsdefine pain as chronic if it lasts longer than three to six months and is persistent. It's distinct from acute pain that is a direct result of injury or trauma. This support group is dedicated to those suffering from chronic pain. Discuss treatments that have worked for you, find advice for your specific experience, and find support. You're not...
You'll never feel alone with this wonderful group of people. Keep talking, honey.
Hugs,
Cherry
I've been a chronic painer for many years, and I too have had friends "leave." It does make you wonder what in the world is so wrong with you! LOL But they too will have problems some day - - lets hope THEIR friends treat them better.
I'm glad you found the chronic pain board -- this is much busier than the others. I'm sure you'll find alot of support and information -- the people here are GREAT!
Take care and don't hesitate to post. God bless. Hugs, Lee
At 20 I think it is more important to have friends then someone like me who is married and in her 40's so please give a bit of effort to keep those friendships going at least the communication with them, they will understand and can be a great help to you.
Keep on those doctors to get you better as much as they can instead of just treating you and controlling the pain. From my experience I dont want you to have to go through this your entire life and maybe because you are so young they can try different things and if you have insurance go to the big medical hospitals that are world renowned to find results to end your pain.
In my case you really can't see the damage, which is generally a positive. But people also forget, and we have to argue over whether to walk across the city or take a bus. Those arguments get tiresome.
It can help if you can be the one to suggest an activity--rather than wait for my friends to suggest something I can't do, I'll ask if anyone wants to sit by the lake or something. I also make sure I budget walking-time so that I make seeing friends a priority. I haven't solved anything, but I've found a few things like that which help.
Best!
big gentle hugs,
Lisa
You are not at the end of a path you are at the beginning. First of all........stop hurting yourself!
There are people here that are genuine and true, and will be there for you. Along with others here that relate to your pain, we all suffer. This is a place where you can find people to talk to.
Give it a try. You're wanted!!
David.
I just turned 24 and can completely relate. starting at 16 I began having spine surgeries and later on also diagnosed with MS. I also lost a lot of friends bc I was always in pain and couldnt do things with them that they wanted.
What has been great about DS is I can chat with my friends here, get support and advice and let a lot of feelings out here, because honestly a lot of my friends over the years could not handle or understand what I was going through- and I couldnt expect them to either.
Your friends who are meant to be in your life will shine thru all of this, even though they cannot understand the constant chronic pain themselves, I try to find a happy medium and I am sure you will too.
You are def not alone! There are a lot of us dealt a rough hand early on in life, and you will meet fantastic and supportive friends here that you will love just like all of your other friends!
Take care and I am always here if you need!
Bridget :)
When you need someone to talk to, just remember that we are here for you. You can cry on our shoulders and we don't mind. You can cuss angrily about your pain and we will listen. We totally understand.
Gentle hugs
