Cerebral Palsy Support Group
Cerebral palsy or CP is the most common childhood physical disability. It is a permanent physical condition that affects movement. There is no cure for cerebral palsy, but various forms of therapy can help a person with the disorder to function more effectively. If you or a loved one has cerebral palsy, join the group to share your experience or get advice from others.
Hi everyone!
My name is Kelly and I am fairly new to this group. I am currently a grad student at NIU and I turn 25 in a few weeks. Things have been going pretty well for me recently. Like I said, I'm in school, I'm making new friends, and my job is going pretty well. That's why I'm so frustrated that I'm not happier!
When I was a teenager I coined the term "wheelchair days." On these days, I feel extra sorry for myself. I struggle to understand why I was given CP and worry about things in my future (ie. pretty heavy stuff). Unfortunately, today is one of those days. I'm feeling a little more upset about my situation than usual. One of the things that's really getting to me is my love life or lack thereof. Bare with me, I'm going to sound like a total girl for a moment...
I like to think I'm a pretty "normal" girl. Not to toot my own horn, but I'm smart, funny, and attractive (or at least I think...) I just can't seem to find any decent gentlemen my age that agree! Guys that I have dated either end up being total jerks or super creepy. Again, I don't want to sound like a total girl, but I just want to find him (whoever he is) already! Or even just date for that matter. All of my friends in their 20s are having the time of their lives, dating all the time, etc. I want to be able to do that. Everyone always says, "when the right person comes along they won't care about your CP." That's awesome and great, and I hope that's true. But, what I am supposed to do in the meantime? And when is this mystery man going to show up?
Anyway, I hate that I sound so whiney and "poor me." I just thought this might be a good avenue for me to express these thoughts. Sorry again this is all so heavy. Gotta love "wheelchair days..." Thanks in advance for your good thoughts :)

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

So voc rehab finally got in touch with me...it took like six months finally. The voc rehab person that they assigned to me is a lawyer and extremely knowledgable on disability law and he seems to know a great deal about how to get people placed in jobs and how to make their resumes pass ATS. I was really surprised at how articulate and energetic he is. I guess my question is how much I...

I feel the same way. Why was I given cp, (even though it is mild) Some day's are worse then other's,
That's how cp is, it's never consistent.
We all feel the same way You here, So, don't be so hard on Yourself up, You;ll find someone.
