Hello. I am a single mother age 35 and I have CP. I have had CP since birth. The Dr.s have diagnosed me with a mild case although there are days I disagree as of late. My30's seem be getting more and more difficult to function on every level. I have 2 BS degrees and an MBA. I have always worked yet, the last two employment opportunities my employers have terminated my position. The last one deemed me as incompetent. I am still trying to make sense of that one.
I was in foster care and adopted at age 6.My whole life I have felt a huge void in my life. I have longed for unconditional love and acceptance. I am divorced and have a son. Dating has been extremely difficult because accepting my CP has been near to impossible for adult males. It is so frustrating because if I am sitting down males are more than interested. The second they see me walk they drop interest. I joined the online sites and I tell them before hand and they say it doesn't bother them. Then, once they me they, cut the date short and I never see them again. Before the night is over, I can almost guarantee they will almost try to sleep with me. It's almost as f they view me as a lesser value so, I feel like all they think I am worth is a piece of ass due to my CP. Which makes me wonder if I am not sufficiently explaining it or if society is just that shallow? Has anyone else had similar experiences?
How do you describe your condition to someone?
My social life is minimal for the same reasons. The rejection is over powering. How do you cope with the rejection? I get extremely depressed.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, as I feel like I am on a one man island.

I haven't written in my diary on my computer since May because I thought that my computer was dying. I got away from writing but my computer is hanging in there. I think that I will start writing in it again. It's so therapeutic.

So voc rehab finally got in touch with me...it took like six months finally. The voc rehab person that they assigned to me is a lawyer and extremely knowledgable on disability law and he seems to know a great deal about how to get people placed in jobs and how to make their resumes pass ATS. I was really surprised at how articulate and energetic he is. I guess my question is how much I...

The best advice that I can give you is that confidence attracts people. It is easy for someone with a disability to view him/herself through the lens of others. Doing that can really kill self-confidence. There are really ignorant people out there. But there are also people can and will look past your disability. It is important to not allow past experiences make you doubt your own value and worth. Don't feel like you have to accommodate someone because you have CP. At the end of the day, you want someone to love you for who you are. If a guy can't do that then you probably should keep it moving. Otherwise, you will find yourself with someone who could care less about you as a person.
Singleness is hard for everyone. Having a disability can make it even more difficult. But don't attribute the ignorance of others to yourself. I doubt that you are insufficiently explaining CP. It is probably just the mentality of the people you are dealing with. You should try as hard as you can to go and do things that you enjoy. I've gone through times of depression and something that helped was finding activities that meant something to me. Sometimes people meet their significant other in the course of doing the things that mean the most to them. I know it's hard. I have many moments that seem unbearable. But you don't need to reflect on those past rejections. They will only fester in your mind and cause you to get discouraged. Sometimes the best way to get past them is to keep moving forward in spite of them.
Your not alone, I feel the same way, I'm in My late 30's And I have mils cp(ataxia) And lately, I feel it has really progressed, to the point where I can't control anger, Emotion(I've always had a hard time expressing) and lately anxiety (although not officially diagnosed)
I've always had a hard time making and keep friends.
As far as dating goes, I've always been straight-forward with women about the cp, and they want to meet me, But, then I get scared (probably the anxiety) about bringing them to my house as I still live my parent's, But, women are willing to come get me,,,,,,,,One was even willing to come from Jersey for me..............I blew that one.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, if men don't wanna look past the disability an see You For You, theire not worth Your time.
So, next time one tells You he's ok with the cp, B4 You meet, then sees You stand up and rejects You, Just ask them why
Theire are some ignorant people in this world.
You RE NOT ON THAT ISLAND ALONE,
take care........God Bless.
i understand where you are coming from as well. I am a single mom of a son and also have mild CP from birth. I have been married but am now a widow. Have had break ups since. I have been independent all my life and worked always. I was laid off of my last job after taking a temp leave of absence since I have back issues and anxiety and depression. I am just now getting back to where I feel I am able to work and on the hunt again for a job. I am wanting to find someone again myself and like you said about meeting people on line then having to explain to them and meeting them with a fear of being rejected the minute they see you walk, I too have felt the same but then on the other hand I have come to a point in my life that if people are going to judge me by appearance then they are not worth it! People are very ignorant and its their problem of they cant accept you. Dont give up on finding someone to love, There is someone out there for everyone regardless of their elements. Everyone has something weither it is a physical thing or mental or otherwise so people need to stop being judged! Go out there and be social I too am trying as have been in a slump without a job and not being social and its starting to be frusterating for me! A really close friend to me once said when I was going to a job interview.... to go out there and walk in like you own the place! I have carried that with me ever since with many situations including dating and meeting people. It is a great way to project self confidence to people and also will help to help you get past the worry about what people think of you! You are worth more then giving into someone just cause of having CP and if a guy cant accept you as person and just wants one thing then they are not worth it! Keep moving and Mr Right is out there. Take care and God Bless!
