A voluntary caregiver is a spouse, relative, friend or neighbor of a disabled person or child who assists with activities of daily living and assists those unable to fully take care of themselves. The challenges of a caregiver are unique and sometimes it's hard to find people to talk to who know what you're going through. Join the conversation and find others who...
First, I am so glad to hear that your wife is doing better. Last time you posted here, it sounded like she was on death's door. Now I hear HOPE in your voice! That is great!
Second, thanks for starting this discussion thread. I have been having terrible in-law problems and it is so comforting to me to read of other people having similar problems, and I feel so not alone and do not blame myself as much.
And third, to vent!!!! My husband's mother, who came to visit for four days while he was in coma in hospital, made a huge scene i.e. "my Only son is dying!!! Fainting all over the hospital floor....) and then left and said that she would come back in a couple of weeks and she had to leave because she had not packed enough clothes..... well it's been 11 months and she still hasn't returned (I guess she hasn't found any clothes) and each time I talk to her, she pleads poor.
I just found out, today, she's planning a vacation to Seattle!!!!!!! And she can't come here to see her "only son" who is still struggling and severely disabled.... And of course has offered no support emotionally or financially....
Oy, I just don't understand some people. But it is good to know, I am not the only one.
Hang in there. Glad to hear things are a bit better. And you are not alone (and neither am I). Thanks for sharing! And thank you all the others who shared here, for sharing. It is good to know others share the same problems....

my wife isn't doing better, my earlier post indicated that her cancer had spread throughout her brain.
a part of me wants to tell him no to the family outting, but that would hurt their children, our nephews opp to be with their aunt, so not too certain what to do right now. I may simply tell them that i'm doing this for my kids, their kids and maria and not them. that would likely not go well and get back to maria placing her in even more unnecessary stress....i just don't get it....
so we are family here
love you all
great to hear about the support you're getting. i, too am getting some tremendous support from my co-workers, employer and support group friends, friends that my wife and i have established relationships with. my own family have done what they could from thousand miles away as well.
yeah, the whole "blood is thicker than water" idea can be so far from the truth....ugh
