I found something I cannot cook to save my life..Rice noodles and Bean Threads

Pardon the language, but how the fuck am I supposed to cook these and make them not taste like I am eating rubbery string?

I use rice threads on my chicken salad - get a big pot with about 2 inches of oil, break the rice threads up in a paper bag, then transfer them in small gobs to the hot oil - they puff up fast, then turn them and finish cooking until puffed, transfer to paper towel to drain.

Hiker - stew and soup are soooo easy - let me know what kind you like. They do take a long time unless you use a crockpot.
