i agree. further, i think that a person's spiritual center that does not have a relationship with God will try to substitute with a human. they might not even realize that it their motivation.

I agree with Faithful. Anyone who tries to substitute God with another human being is in for an off balanced, miserable existence full of horrendous relationships that never seem to fill the bill.

I hadn't seen that youtube video before. I thought it was cute, and I like the idea of being able to roll on your own. It leaves me thinking though: without any bond, we might just being rolling by ourselves, probably forever.

And which god are you talking about? You do realize that many great people don't believe in the same god as yours, or don't believe in god at all, right? I find it absurd to generalize in such an absolute notion. Assuming you are talking about an omnipotent being in the spirituality sense, how does any person substitute that with another person?

There are many words that can substitute for the word "God", and frankly I knew someone would take issue with the use of the word. A presence, or wholeness that I believe is personal to each individual is what I choose to call God.

Whatever subjective term you choose to use is fine.

It's wonderful to have that faith, NewAgain. And I hope you have found or will find the inner peace and serenity this faith brings, which manifest outwardly through your words and actions.

vt, tons of people try to substitute. how do they do it? they try to project their idealizations onto a partner and when they don't measure up, they find a reason to bail.

Faithful, I agree with what you said about the idealization, and I have seen it. I just don't see how God has anything to do with it.

My spouse once told me, "when I look at you, I see the face of God,"
I have always felt he was too needy and smoothering and I felt very uncomfortable to for him to say that. I told him that nothing can ever replace God in his life and not to talk that way to me anymore.

Could certainly be construed as creepy if said by certain individuals in an inappropriate situation.
