I remember that line in Jerry McGuire, where Tom Cruise's character says that and I began to think about it. If you are the type of person that needs someone to, "complete you"...doesn't that mean you are not whole and that you will always need someone to complete the puzzle? The way I look at it and how I see myself going forward is that I will complement someone and they to me, I don't want to be the part that they need to exist that puts a burden on the relationship right out of the gate and I certainly don't want to be dependent on someone to make me whole.
The minute I hear anyone saying they need someone to complete them, or make them happy - I'm out of there. Way too needy and desperate for me.
As for lists - the only criteria I have is that he has a job and his own teeth. Other than that - I focus on what I can be, and what I can offer - and trust that I'll attract a similar person. If I want honesty, kindness, humour, compassion - then I need to be those things too. At least - that's what I think.
I've certainly attracted a better class of friends with this approach. Real people that I would trust with my life. Doesn't matter what they do -as long as the basic's are there.
