I tried the dating thing, didn't work too well. I was held hostage by a coke dealer, got a elbow in the face that broke a molar, and those are just the highlights.

I'm smarter NOT to date. I don't think my insurance company will accept it anymore.

But as an aside, they both had impeccable table manners..... :)

I can easily relate to TD66 and EastcoastAJ. When I got divorced I had never even actually dated. I was in two long term relationships from age 16 to 38 and I don't think what i had before that really falls into the category of "dating" so I was terrified to get out there and still am. The experiences I've had so far haven't helped.

But to answer the question which is a very interesting one I'd say with any date there isn both an expectaition and a hope and soemtimes it,s hard not to get the two confused. For me anyway. What I would at least hope for would be meeting a decent, courteous person whom I can have a pleasant time with and find some commonality. But if I'm honest with myself deep down the hope is that of the hopeless romantic in me which is to find the love of my life.

I haven't been on that first post breakup date yet. It will probably still be a while. I wouldn't have any idea what to expect. It would be really weird. I'll probably get a migraine headache halfway through it.

I am in the dating scene again and I wouldn't expect any one to only be seeing me in the very beginning. I have been seeing more than one guy in the same week. I think dating is just that dating you are not in a committed realtionship with anyone until you ask to be. If you are seeing someone yu think could be "the one" than I suggest you hae an open conversation with her to find out if she thinks you could be "the one" but for now, keep making plans with whomever.
