3 weeks ago I broke up with my partner of 3 yrs. It was heartbreaking--one of the hardest things I've ever done, but I felt that he left me no choice.
Before we moved in together 2 yrs ago I found out (through Facebook) that he was cheating on me with another woman while away on a temporary job. I told him then, that it was over, I did not deserve this, and I was not going to stand for it and cut him off cold.
5 weeks later I heard from him and he was all apologetic, he was sorry, he loved me and didn't want anyone else. He was going to be away for another 6 weeks, so we used that time to talk and work things out. When he came back we moved in together and up until recently were very happy. He was living up to his promise to "make it up" to me--I saw no indication that anything was going on. Everything seems to be going great.
Then in February I found a text exchange with another woman--he was asking her to "write him a love letter before he went to bed so he could dream about her". She responded that she'd sent it to his email. I didn't want to look any further. I confronted him about this and after initially getting mad for looking at his phone (it was on the table when the message came up and I saw it....) he said he was sorry, that it didn't mean anything and it was just a "distraction". I asked if he was going to end it, and he said he would.
I don't know how stupid he thought I was, but after that he put or changed the passcodes on all his devices and began hiding his phone from me. I knew this was still going on, but whenever I asked he told me it was over. If I asked to look at his phone he started yelling that I "was obsessed with phones" and I "needed to stop this". Need I say we just started fighting all the time? Finally 3 weeks ago I got the phone bill and decided to investigate further....he had calls/texts/photos back and forth with this woman multiple times every day. I confronted him again, and told him that was it, and the next day kicked him out.
He did say he was sorry, but I was in full furious mode and right then just wanted to get away from him. Never discussed what the problem was, or trying to talk about it and maybe work it out. I was hoping he would say something like that, then maybe I wouldn't have left, but he didn't--he just said "maybe I'm not meant to be in a relationship" and that I'd never trust him again (to which I responded "whose fault is that? and he acknowledged it was his)
I haven't spoken him since a day or two after the breakup. I blocked his phone calls (but he could easily call me from another # if he wanted to). I'm having his emails sent directly to my "trash" folder (which I admit I check a few times a day...nothing)
Was I unreasonable. Should I have given him a chance to work this out? Other people have worked through infidelity, and this was only a cyber affair--he said he's never met the woman in person, and due to the logistics I believe him. Did I over react? Was it unreasonable to kick him out without even talking about it? I was just so angry and so hurt.....

Ever since I stopped doing therapy because of insurance, I've been feeling that old tense and irritable sense of anxiety and stress. I hate that. I was making so many strides and changes during therapy, my therapist would acknowledge all of my progress and accomplishments, and I miss that reassurance. Today I thought about it, and I made those changes! She would always tell me that I chose to...

I'm horrified! I knew my insurance would go up due to getting a new car but I didn't expect it to go up over $2,000. I did have an accident with the snow/ice in the winter. I was just telling my brother that I have had my car since March 2, 2026 and have only spent $75 on an oil change. Now this! I called another insurance company and their quote was over $4,000. I guess I have to pay...
I'm in my 60s--I was planning on retiring next year and we had lots of plans and dreams. Now? I don't know what to do, I have my doubts I'll meet anyone else--I'm not an outgoing person. I don't meet people easily. I'll probably just go back to being alone, and that idea hurts me so much when I had so much life planned, and I had, briefly, been so happy. I truly felt he was the love of my life.
I'm hitting 56 soon and I've been able to re-imagine my life without my ex. He was a slug anyway, so I really feel I'm having and will continue to have more experiences in my life than if I were still with him. You may come to find that, too.
