I actually started laughing when he said that and strongly advised him to consider another 'line' in the future...poor guy, he turned about 6 shades of red...actually felt bad for the guy...not bad enough to become 'mama' again...but you know, in theory...:)

You guys are making the boys look bad. Think about how many single women you associated with when you met your X. Now think about how many you associate with now. Not quite the same number, and those women before, you knew through friends or through common interests so you all ready had stuff to talk about. It's a different game if your doing the online thing. Either you figure out there is some sort of connection on line or on the phone, or you accept the date for what it is, a date. If your going to judge each date as a success or failure, then you are in for a hateful time. Just go out and enjoy the persons company, if it doesn't work out then fine. The date's success or failure shouldn't send you into a woe is me state.

Bernie's absolutely right. Dating shouldn't be a make or break proposition. If you're looking at it like that, you're putting too much pressure on the both of you.

Just go out and see if you enjoy talking to each other and enjoy each other's company. I think after a date or two, the only thing you can know is whether there's potential for seeing more of each other. If you're looking for a sign that there's a relationship in the future, you're demanding too much from the date.

Once I took this pressure off of myself, I started to have a lot more fun on dates. I used to go out with a woman and immediately decide if I wanted to see her again. Could I see myself in a relationship with her? Is there any long-term potential?

Now, I just try to take things as they come and I'm much more content. I'll go out with someone and enjoy the night for what it is. Afterward, we'll communicate over email and then we might get toether again. Or we might not. It's really not a huge thing one way or another.

It's just a date.

You are right Bernie, Each is a new experience and future laugh material in most cases. Some of the "dates" deserve to get put in the "shithead catagory" as well all read on my thread but I realize it is a numbers game to find a match! It was when we were young as well we just had a whole school to choose from, still went through a lot to find a mate! I enjoy the adventure, at least I feel alive. I learn from each so they are not wastes of time!

Dont get me wrong, if this guy was not so clear about basically dating to find mommy, i would have no problem at all continuing to see him...he was a nice guy, nothing wrong as far as i could see...but he was a man on a mission, made that clear, so i didnt feel it would be right to lead someone on, just to not feel lonely...
